How many withdrawals did you have in undergrad? also, where did you go/are you going to pharmacy school?

Zero and University of Southern Nevada. And for yor next question, yes there was a sopt on the application for this school to give reason for any withdrawals, retaken classes, etc.

will it help that neither of my two withdrawals were in math or science? they were also both in freshman year, and I don't plan on doing it again, regardless of the grade that I'll get.

Zero withdrawals, University at Buffalo. While i presume having any withdrawals is looked at as a negative if theres a good reason for it there is a space to explain yourself. Also i would think that withdrawing out of Orgo II would be considered worse than withdrawing out of a Music 101 elective. Depends on your situation

Edit: I would think its better that neither was in a math or science course and its definitely better to do it your freshman year so you can show an upward trend when it comes time to apply

I withdrew from OChem II in the spring but it was due to an injury to one of my eyes and somehow I was losing the vision in my other eye. For that reason I could not drive because everything was blurry. It was kinda weird to the physician as well that this would happen. My professor advised me to drop the course because I was missing quite a few labs and would not be able to make them up due to the fact that it was already late in the semester. I am currently retaking the course.

Yeah i'd say thats about as solid of a reason to withdraw as any. Orgo II is hard enough when you can actually see. Hope those eyes are good to go now!

Wow, seriously? What were your reasons if you don't mind me asking?

I might as well turn this into some sort of inspirational post, huh? Well, grades aren't everything- and to prove it, I will post my grades from my university. I started college back in 2000, k (yes, I am old). I had to go dig out my transcript because I forgot what I even took back then and it is actually worse than what I thought! (What I posted up there^^)

Now, Post bac...

All A's except for a couple of B's - cGPA post bac - 3.9

I retook the orgo and chem for A's. A&P - A, B, Econ A, Speech, A Orgo II A,basically everything else A.

Now you ask, WHY THE HELL DID YOU GET ADMITTED??!?!?!

I have 6 years of pharmacy tech experience. I worked full-time throughout my undergrad career because my parents couldn't support me. I screwed off A LOT but made up for it with my post bac grades (WHICH TOOK ME 3 YEARS TO RETAKE EVERYTHING AND FINISH PRE-REQS) and my ECs: founded a sorority, President of a club, lots of volunteering, mentor for at risk teens, volunteered at medical clinic at St Vincent De Paul, list goes on and on.

I had EXTREMELY STRONG LORs, an 87 PCAT (I only took it once), and a great personal statement. I addressed everything in my supplementals and my interviews...got admitted to my top choices: UMN and UA both top 10 schools.

An upward trend is important and so is experience. With dedication, personal responsibility, and good work ethic, you can do it.

2 F's, no W's but several Q drops for various reasons, UT Austin.

several D's and F's, like a whole year of them. A few withdrawals. hah. my undergrad GPA was dismal.

I know UT is extremely difficult to get into but good luck. When will you be applying?

I'm applying this cycle (Fall 2011). So far I'm working on UH, Tech, OU, and UT... and looking into a couple of out-of-state options. I know UT is probably my biggest longshot though. Even though it's my alma mater, I've heard plenty of stories of UT rejecting their own alumni.

Seems like we might be competing at a couple schools on your list.😀

It also depends on whether the W grade was authorized or not. Having an authorized W grade will not hurt you at all (these are the ones that require doctors notes due to medical illness). The ones that will hurt you are the unauthorized W grades where you have the professor drop you late in the semester. These W grades basically count as F's until the course is retaken and are the ones that need to be explained. They will appear on your transcript as a WU.

This is how it was at the school I attended.

Nevermind. I had a medical issue.

I guess it's school dependent because I withdrew from OChem II in April this year, a month before the semester ended. On my transcript it shows as W.

As long as you had a doctors not explaning why you had to drop the class you're good because it ultimately was not your fault. I had a few W's one semester for medical reasons and I was worried how it would look when applying to pharmacy school. I was told that since it was authorized, it was like I was never enrolled in the class. The W has to stay on your permanent record for some stupid reason which makes no sense at all. If I remember correctly, I was told that authorized W grades (at least at my school) were notated as being authorized on the official transcript as well as the reasoning behind them.

Look at my edited post.😉

My school didn't have Ws. If you wanted to withdraw past the drop deadline, you had to withdraw for the whole quarter. I did that once. I also used Fs like they were Ws because my school had a grade replacement policy. I did that 5 times. I'm not sure what I was thinking because in most of those classes I probably would have earned a C and most likely an A in this other class that I was too tired to attend. I used to take the easy way out. Now I'm about to be a P2 at USN and I have found that advanced preparation is much preferable to taking short cuts.

I have two Ws; one in Calc I and one in genetics. I will be attending USC and was never asked about it on the interview.

3 withdrawals.
1) Advanced Visual Basic Programming...decided I was not going to spend my whole semester freaking out about that class
2)Calculus - Was taking it over the summer and got a D on my first test and decided taking it over the summer with another class was not a good idea because it was too fast paced
3)Bio I - HORRIBLE teacher - retook it with a great teacher and loved it

1 Withdrawl--later retook for a C in A&PII
1 D--retook for a C in A&P I
1 F--retook for a B in Ochem II

Went to Purdue for undergrad, and I'm now at Sullivan. I had family issues my sophomore year, so it was very difficult for me to keep up with school and everything else, and I'm very surprised it did so well(mostly A's and B's) in all of my other classes (ochemI, micro, physicsI/II, etc) that year instead of withdrawing completely.
