Hey, guys. I'm having a slight problem filling in my courses on the VMCAS site -- in the instructions, it says to write the entire course name as it appears on my transcript, but then the character limit in the course name field is too small to fit a lot of course names. I'm using IE version 7...How are you guys handling this?

I did the best to use standard shortenings. (Is that a word?) For example Intro to Microbio or Anatomy and Physio or Art Hist 1945-pres. Just do your best. Remember they get real copies of your transcripts too.

Yeah, actually... The course names were often abbreviated on my actual transcripts - the university's database probably had a length limit on course names, too. 🙂 I think the reason they want it exactly the same as on your transcript is simply so that it's easier to check your list in VMCAS against the official transcripts, if they think there might have been an (intentional or unintentional) error in what you entered. You're not gonna get rejected just because you can't fit the whole unabbreviated course name in.

I believe when I applied, the directions said to type it exactly as it is on your transcript. Since there is a limit on the number of characters, you just start at the beginning and type as much as will fit- exactly as it appears on your transcript. This makes it easier to compare your input with the transcript. Don't abbreviate. Don't change the name.

Good luck. I don't envy you the hassle. I had 6 years worth of college credits at 3 schools to enter- twice! Glad I never have to do that again!
