I need to get a CPR certificate before starting school. Does anyone know where in the Bay Area I can take a CPR course?

American Red Cross, American Heart Association, etc

Call your local hospital and/or ambulance provider and ask them where/when the next class is or who puts them on in your area.

Call your local Red Cross. I teach CPR classes every weekend here.

Is it difficult to be CPR certified? Im registered for a class this saturday but am kind of worried and nervous about the class.

It's not difficult at all. Just pay attention, do what the instructor tells you, follow the steps on the skills portion, and use your brain on the written. I've been teaching for over a year now and have only ever had to fail one student.

Sounds like this is your first time. Make sure that you read the book that they gave you. Practice on a pillow if you have to (for positioning and doing the chin lift/head tilt and jaw thrust manuevers) just to get comfortable with how you position yourself alongside the mannequins.

Put it this way, I've had several Down's syndrome patients successfully earn their CPR certifications in classes I've taught. I'm sure if you gained admission to med school, CPR certification shouldn't be a challenge

Children 12 years old have routinely passed CPR (it's a requirement for the red cross babysitting certificate). Don't worry about it. Piece of cake.

What is BLS certification? Is that the same as regular CPR?

Exactly my question! My school requires BLS certification, and I'm sort of confused. I think maybe it's just the CPR for healthcare providers course, but I'm not totally sure. Anyone?

Usually it means the CPR for Healthcare Providers course.

Yup. Also known as BCLS, basic cardiac life support. Just your basic 15 and 2 cpr.

BLS cpr entails both adult, child, and infant CPR. BLS aka CPR for Healthcare Providers. Make sure it covers all adult, child, and infant CPR, AEDs, and obstructed airway for all three.
