Who was selected as an alternate and when did you interview? Who was accepted and when did you interview?

I interviewed on Feb 19th and was selected as an alternate.

I was too! Was Creighton your top school?
In almost every single way, it seems like a tremendous program to attend...however, I can't seem to be able to justify the enormous cost. It is, by far, the most expensive school I have seen and is close to $100k more expensive than the second-most expensive school I applied to. Just based on the fact that the average OT salary ranges between $60-90k depending on setting, location, and experience, having six figures in debt just seems...not worth it no matter how great Creighton's program is. I would love to purchase a home and have children within the next 5-10 years, and also generally be able to save/invest money. Having that amount of debt looming over me scares me to no end hahaha If cost was absolutely not a factor at all, I would strongly, strongly consider going there.

Is Creighton a top choice for you?

Creighton was my first choice, but I am also in the same boat as you. The debt terrifies me as I would like to start a family within the next 5 years. Where else did you apply?

Mostly to schools in Illinois and Wisconsin, both close for me! UWMilwaukee, UWMadison, UMinnesota, Carroll (WI), UIC, Rush University, Rutgers, UWashington, Creighton. What about you?

I applied to College of Saint Mary and UNMC. I got accepted into CSM’s program and just have one last portion to complete for UNMC interview process.

Awesome, congrats on getting in to CSM! I'm waiting to hear back from the last two schools and then I'll make my final decision. I am really grateful to have gotten in anywhere, honestly! haha

What schools have you got into?

I was accepted at Carroll University, Rutgers University, and University of Minnesota, waitlisted at Rush and Creighton, rejected from UIC and UWashington, and waiting to hear back from both UWs.
Of your options, which one are you leaning towards most? An OT I shadowed at Creighton University Medical Center actually went to CSM for OT and was working in the NICU!

congrats on getting accepting your those schools! Which one are you leaving towards?
I am a little torn. Creighton offered me a spot in their 2022 Cohort, but I don’t know if I want to wait that long. I am leaning towards CSM, but I am waiting to finish a virtual open house for UNMC. I think once I finish that I will be able to make my decision. I was accepted into CSM earlier this month and have to respond this Friday so so don’t lose my spot.

Thank you!! I'm leaning mostly towards Carroll, but once the UW decisions come out, I can make my final final decision haha
Ohhhh wow I didn't even know they did that?? That is quite a long time to wait. Between Creighton, CSM, and UNMC, which one is more affordable for you/requires the least amount of loans? Is CSM a MSOT/MOT? Honestly, if I were you, I would put down a deposit for CSM to ensure that you have a place to go. I'm sure it's non-refundable, but I think it's worth the safety. But of course, it depends on your financial situation and I'm sure it's not an insignificant amount, but if you are able to do it, I would. If later on, you realize Creighton is way too expensive for you to attend or if you don't get into UNMC, at least you are still attending a program that works for you!

UNMC is the most affordable and CSM actually id OTD. They just started their OTD program in 2019. i actually plan to respond to CSM tomorrow and put my $150 deposit in to secure my spot! Are all the programs you applied to OTD or are some MOT?

I applied to about an even mix. I see that you did 3 doctorate programs, any particular reason you didn't pursue a Master's? I am open to OTD programs, but the initial debt is a little worrisome, especially since everyone says there is no noticeable salary difference. Ugh, it's a tough decision!

After talking to several OTs, a lot said to pursue doctorate programs due to the potential of MOT programs having to be forced to transition to doctorate programs in 2027. I ultimately want the opportunity to pursue research and having my doctorate would give me those opportunities compare to having my masters.

Nice! I think that's a good rationale. I've heard such conflicting accounts of what to do. I think I'm just going to have to go with which school/program/faculty I like best and which will provide me the most enriching experiences and opportunities that I am interested in. As of right now, I am waitlisted at that school that checks all of the boxes for me (Madison), but I am really hoping for the best hehehe

I interviewed on March 19th and got waitlisted (they offered a spot in 2022 and at the AZ campus). Has either of you heard anything about how big the alternate pool is or how many people usually get off of it?

Thanks in advance and good luck with everything!

Sorry, I don't really know much!

I also do not know! I have bit heard anything back regarding my status either as I was waitlisted and given the same options as you.

Hey everyone! This is the first time I've ever used this forum and I'm not quite sure how it works but I was accepted into the OTD Phoenix Pathway back in December 2020 - interviewed beginning of November I think. I was trying to find some students that may be in my cohort! If anyone has any questions let me know! I only applied to two schools, Creighton and Midwestern both in AZ - accepted by Creighton and put on the alternate list for Midwestern. I'm SO HAPPY that I found Creighton through the OTCAS system because I was only going to apply to Midwestern (its literally down the street from me). I'm a mom/wife with three young children so moving across the country or applying to multiple schools was not an option for me! Local options only. Anyway, best of luck everyone! 🙂

Just a heads up! I received a call from Creighton today letting me know they had a spot open. I declined as I accepted position elsewhere! Just wanted to give you hope!

I also asked to be taken off the waitlist this past week, so hopefully things are moving along now that most people are committing to other places.
