Hey I was just wondering what you guys all thought of Creighton. I haven't seen a lot posted on this site about it and I wanted to know how everyone thought it measured up to other schools. The dentist I interviewed with for my committee letter went to Creighton and was way exicted about it, he made it sound like it was better than Pacific, or Maryland, or well alot of schools. He just about peed his pants with delight when he heard I was applying there. All I really know about them is that they are a good clinical school to go to.

There is no bad school.

I agree. I wanted to know what other people thought of Creighton and why someone would choose it as their first choice.

They have awesome clinical experience and they score very well on their boards. Top 5 i think, so they are definately doing something right.

Thanks, that's the kinda thing I was looking for. Now maybe a little more personal answer like why would Creighton be right for you.

It's one of the cheapest private schools and living in Omaha costs less that NYC or Boston.

um not sure if this is true:
but if you want to specialize it is better to go with a school that has the program you are interested in, because it will be easier to get accepted

I heard the opposite. If the school has the post-doc program you want, the student(s) in that program will most likely suck up all the cases from the clinic, giving you LESS experience in that proceedure.

I am not sure if this is the case either, but it's a counter point and something to think about.

Creighton touts the fact that they don't have specialty programs and so the students get to see cases like endo, perio, etc. that would probably normally go to the post-doc students.

If you live in Utah or Idaho, the RDEP or IDEP respectively is a sweet deal. The tuition break is really awesome. I've talked with a lot of dentists that have graduated from Creighton and they all have great things to say about it. The clinic is as new as 3 years in most parts and no older than 6 years in any part. Omaha is cheap to live in, has 4 seasons, and is a pretty laid back place.

I have heard people on SDN name ten schools that have scored on the top 5 on the boards. Proof please?

i talked to a guy that just graduated from creighton and he reiterated all the great clinical / cost of living etc positives. he said the only negaitve he thought of was that the faculty are all ex-military and can really treat you like crap sometimes. definitely not the faculty-students on the same level that you may get elsewhere.

all in all i think creighton will end up being one of my top three choices

The dentist that i did the most shadowing for graduated from creighton and is an excellent dentist. I asked his why he chose it and it was because he played football for BYU and wasn't able to interview anywhere else early, he got accepted to creighton and liked the area alot (something about not being too big of a city and still having outdoor things to do). He is a very well rounded dentist that does a little of everything like ortho, root canals, etc. I personally will go check out the school if i get accepted and see if it best fits my needs.

yeah... it is because once a school does it one time, they will tout it for two decades.

it's no different than college football. miami, oklahoma, auburn, texas, usc, nebraska, notre dame, alabama, florida state, virginia tech...

they all could lay claim that they are a "top 5 team" (or at least have been at least once in the last 10 years).

it's no different with dental schools, or any school for that matter. they will say what you want to hear.

it's up to you to get your hands on the actual information.

Only Notre Dame has not even been in the top 5 in football in the last 10 years!
