I was arrested on a misdemeanor shoplifting charge a little over a year ago. The charges were dropped and the case was dismissed; I was not charged with any wrongdoing however the arrest is still currently on my record. It is in the process of expungement but the problem is I need to submit a background check right now as I am set to begin my program in July.

I disclosed this information to my program after I was admitted but they have yet to give me feedback as to how this will affect my admittance into the program. Can anyone who has undergone a similar experience give me feedback as to how this will affect me? Do I have a reason to be worried?

Thank you for your feedback in advance.

If they admitted you, I would think you would be fine. Wasnt there a section on the PTCAS application that asks if you had ever been arrested or convicted of a crime? What did you put as a response to that?

From what I understand, admittance to a program is separate from getting clearance for clinicals. Hospitals often have stringent requirements for criminal records--they asked me about that just for volunteering.

Every state has different laws on expungements. Some don't allow charges to disappear from public record. What has your attorney said? Are you accepted at a school in your home state?

Some interesting info from APTA: https://www.apta.org/uploadedFiles/...APTA/CriminalBackgroundCheckforPTPrograms.pdf

The PTCAS application only asks if you have been convicted of a misdemeanor or a felony, to which I answered no because I was not convicted of any wrongdoing. However the arrest still remains on my record. I start my program in July and according to my attorney, the arrest is expected to be off my record by no later than this October.

I already turned in my non-refundable deposit. I'm not sure if that means anything but I would think having one arrest (that's due to be expunged) with no convictions on your record would not be enough to rescind my admittance.

If you weren't convicted I don't know how they could turn you away.
