Hello,
I chose to post this in the psychology forum because it is more heavily visited.
I was looking in the speech-lang./audiology forum and I saw someone mention that instead of becoming a speech language pathologist, one could become a neuropsychologist/school psychologist and do a great deal of the same work. Could someone explain to me exactly what a neuropsychologist would do that would overlap with communication disorders?

We have a few neuro folks on the board who may be able to answer this better than I can, but I assume the overlap would fall primarily in the assessment of patients with various aphasias. Stroke/Traumatic Brain Injury type folks who develop speech difficulties later, and determining the extent/specificity of the damage. We also use similar equipment (EEG, fMRI).

That would be my guess anyways. I'm sure others will chime in who are better equipped to answer your question. I can tell you that here, we share a building!

I guess it depends on what you mean by "the same work"--a SLP is licensed, so any SLP jobs directly in the field of SLP must be filled by someone who holds a CCC-A or a CCC-SLP.

I do know SLPs work alongside psychologists in feeding clinics, which is where I spent some time this summer. It was a really interesting partnership.

Hmm, I wonder if a feeding clinic might work well, as I assume the work is with infants and young children.
🙂
