I am wondering if you guys wash your hands before shaking the patients hands when walking into the room?

I know we need to wear gloves or wash hands before doing the PE, however I haven't head of anyone washing hands when walking into the room? We were trained to wash hands before ever shaking hands with the patient... considering the fact that you were just touching some other "sick" person in the previous room.

And do we need to wash AFTER the physical exam? They taught us to do that at our school for OSCEs, but was just curious whether we need to for CS purposes.

Sorry to bump this old thread, but does it count if you wash your hands before introducing yourself? I know that we don't have to do it this way. I just feel that it would be one less thing that I have to *make sure* that I do if I were to walk in, wash my hands, then introduce myself and go on with the interview.
