I am a MS3 student at a US MD school and I am already having issues with the CS portion of our clerkships... We have an OSCE exam for every rotation and it is worth 25% of our clerkship grade. I am barely passing these OSCE because of my typing speed (20-25 wpm); thus, the CIS portion always brings my OSCE grade down... Should I buy a typing software and learn how to type? Any suggestions!

I would definitely recommend it or if you can find some good games online, but if you never learned proper typing technique you might as well spring for an application to teach you. Typing speed is a significant asset for the exam. I'm convinced that many of my older attendings who use the two finger method probably would have failed the exam just for that reason had they actually had to take it.

I'm a slow typer myself , especially on an older style keyboard . I'm use to typing on my Mac book when i'm home and been using a voice typing app at the hospital lol .. Best advise is to get keyboard for a PC desktop and start using it now for your daily use and to try and leave the room a few min early on exam day to start your notes .

I am using fasttypinggame(dot)net and this typing stuff is turning out to be more challenging than I thought... I am trying to spend 8-10 hrs/wk on that stuff, and using proper techniques now have slowed me down to 15 wpm instead of 20 wpm when typed using my fingers... I am starting to even doubt if I will be able to achieve 40 wpm by the time I take CS in July..

Keep at it. You have 6 months. Not to get to 40 wpm, but to simply get faster than you would have been without it.. The more you practice, the more comfortable you will get.
