I'm practicing writing notes in under 10 minutes for CS... and I'm using the page on the USMLE website.

Only 15 lines for HPI?
CC: ______
HPI: pt is a 32 yo M complaining of ____ for ____ weeks.

I use Lines 1-10/11 for CC and HPI. Then Only 4 lines for Allergies, Medication, Past medical history, Family, Surigcal, Social.... etc etc? I usually designate a separate line for these, and that's how it is in First Aid
ROS:
Allergies:
Medications:
PMH:
SH:
etc etc... their format their HPI is like 20+ lines...

Anyone else having this problem? WTF? Am I just being to wordy? Or......

dont use seperate lines, that is what is killing your characters. Put it together ex: ROS: negative except above. Pmhx: denies. Pshx: denies....etc etc
Had the same problem at first but then just did that method

OP, I agree with the previous poster. Another space-saving tip is using widely-known abbreviations. Although the CS examiners mention a list of "approved abbreviations" for the exam, you have most likely used the vast majority of these abbreviations. As long as what you type is understood by the average physician, you should be fine. Good luck, and I hope this helps! M.D. author/editor with BoardVitals
