hi guys!!! am looking for someone who wants to rent out/sell the equipment for the bench test prep at UC Denver, all except the typodont.. anyone wid any information plz PM me.. its urgent... thnx a lot..

Can anyone pls suggest .. whats the best way to fill the outline of letter O ...
1. Can we just soften the wax like a rope ..and then go around to fill the outline .

2. Do we melt the wax .. drop by drop n then fill the outline with wax in melted form .. ?

pls reply

hey i interviewed at colorado last year. at that time they had following exercises:
14 mo
30 full gold crown
wax exercises: make an o with red wax
another melt blue inlay wax into a square
and carve a green stick wax into a pencil .
wax exercises are easy not to worry about that , but do well on tooth preparations.
good luck👍

I melted wax, some people just made a rope and stuck it on paper.I melted a layer of wax and carved excess away.

correct me if im wrong someone...
for a pfm crown wid porcelain only on buccal, we give shoulder on buccal and chamfer on lingual right??
with porcelain on occlusal surface and lingual, we give a shoulder all over ?? or chamfer all over?? im pretty sure its shoulder all over but a lot of people have been tellin me to chamfer.

thank you

PFM shoulder buccal and inter proximal, if visible/upper premolars. Lingiual- chamfer.Occlusal reduction depends on if it is porcelain or metal. This is how they teach in UC

@ oral care thank you!!
Do you know what kind of carver they give for wax exercise?

hi oral care,
I have another doubt,
you said for the pfm prep u give shoulder on buccal and chamfer on lingual. Im guessing that thats for cases where you have porcelain only on the buccal aspect. What if there is porcelain all over with a metal coping, what margins are you guys taught for that. If possible, can you please clarify this with one of your faculty members and help us out please. Its urgent as the test day is coming up quick. (im asking this because the general dentists in clinics do a chamfer here. i didnt understand the concept behind it).

Hi! Chandnim,
I'm also preparing for bench test and interviwe on May 21.
In my opinion, lingual side of a preparated crown should not necessarily have bevel or butt joint margin. This is because the lingual side is not concerned with esthetic problem rather than periodontal health. Therefore, in almost all cases except for all ceramic crown restoration, the lingual side generally is recommended to be a chamfer margin which allows small metal collar around lingual side of the tooth. On the other hand, in porcelain jacket crown, the strength of a crown margin is great concern. In that case, the lingual side of the crown prep should be a deep chamfer or butt joint margin i.e. shoulder.

Porcelain all over metal coping is generally not used so often.
If there were a case that lingual esthetics is critical, I don't know what situation could be in this category, then the ideal margin should be a butt joint with bevel as the same way as used on buccal aspect.

ok i guess then practicing both cases will be the best then since we dont know what case theyl give us. My only concern with the wing prep is that ive never seen anyone in a clinical practice doin that preparation cause i really don think anyone leaves the lingual side with no ceramic layer. I can only think of cases where clearance is a problem that clinicians would do that.
Also, in the wing preparation, do we bevel the shoulder margin or no??

Thanks for the information about the bench test. Can u plz. also tell me the names of the waxes they are asking to do the exercise with and also the name of the wax carver.
Also how much time are they giving us for the bench test. Thanks.

Can somebody who took the IV and the bench test on May 7th at CU tell us their experience? I am interviewing too and I'm anxious about the bench test, type of questions and all that. Thnx

yes i took interview on 7 th may. All i can say is my experience at school was wonderful. It was stressfree envoirment, especially current students guide you well. The facility there is new and state of art.
In interview it is basically about you....so just be yourself. They ask some questions about subjects but only clinical things, so if you have clinical experience it should not be problem otherwise read fix prostho and restorative well, especially RPD designs.
About bench test current students guide you well so prepare for class 2 and crown. This year they are going to change tooth numbers so prepare on all "posterior teeth".
Wax exercise is tough one. so try to save time from preps to give it to wax. They changed all wax exercises this year.....hardest one is green stick. It took me abt 45 min alone.
all i can say is interview was stressfree, be yourself and try to tell them more what you are best at.
Good luck for other batches.
thanks dr cool...can u tell me whether they set maniquens with cheeks or without it just with jaws..

Thanks alot drcool77 for all the details ..you said they ask clinical questions in interview. I dont have much clinical experience .. I just hope the questions are not tough 🙂 you said go through fixed prostho and study RPD.. do you mean removeable partial denture ???

Just 1 question about the Wax.
what did you need to do with it exactly ?
did you have to carve a tooth out of a green wax stick?
and did you need to wax a model up with the red?
thank you.

As for wax ,yes green stick is like carving but be slow and careful coz it is sometimes brittle. Rest two i think are easy.
