So I filled out an application for a pharm tech job and I called the manager and he said they hiring this fall when the interns leave. He said he is going to call me for an interview within a couple weeks....the question is...how should I prepare for this interview? what kind of questions are they going to ask? Is it very formal? thanks

if you searched, you would know there are threads just like your post

It's really not a big deal. I really wouldn't view it as an "interview" so as much as it is a "meet and greet." The most important question that they will ask is "do you have any previous pharm tech experience?" and all you have to do is answer honestly.

I would wear a button down shirt and slacks, but don't worry about wearing dress shoes or a tie. Just say hi, remember to be friendly and smile, and answer the questions honestly while acting natural. It's not very formal, and I wouldn't worry think beyond what you want to wear.

Like Garfield says, its pretty informal. Just be calm & confident, they'll ask simple questions like any experience?

But you should wear dress shoes w/ slacks and tie! Thats the new dresscode at CVS for guys...

They have just made it mandatory at my CVS store for clerks/techs to wear scrubs. Anyone else here having to put up with this crap?

Dress code my ass. I wear jeans, a t-shirt with the line bond structure of a certain C-II drug on it, and a lab coat, with sneakers. No way in hell am I wearing dress shoes if I'm going to be standing all day.

Put up with this crap? Are you insane, that is the best thing that can happen. Scrubs are awesome.

Why would you not want to wear scrubs?

I agree, I couldn't think of anything better to wear to work than scrubs. It's like getting to wear pajamas all day.

At the store where I worked, men had to wear a dress shirt, tie, and slacks (along with the white coat). Actual enforcement of the dress code will depend on your district manager that oversees all of the store pharmacies in the area.

When I started out, the head pharmacist only cared about wearing slacks and a dress shirt. After the district manager came by and sent out a memo, they became extra stingy on wearing a tie and keeping the white coat on. Fortunately, they didn't care (or, they didn't notice) about the shoes. Your head pharmacist may have his or her own preferences, so adjust accordingly.

Scrubs, like in a hospital, would be great. At that point, you can basically wear whatever you want under the scrubs, which generally results in more comfortable clothing. In my case, we wouldn't have to worry about slacks, dress shirts, or the tie thing.

Since this is an old post, I might as well ask my question here instead of making a new thread.

I also applied for a pharmtech position at a CVS about two days ago.... should I call the manager just like the OP did to find out if any positions are available?

Give either the GM or the Pharm. Manager a ring. Call during not-so-busy hours. Or just stop by, show your face, and let them know you did send an online application and you were wondering if there was a position available. If they see you're making an effort, it will help.

at my store i wear a button up with black pants and no tie. some people wear ACDC tees underneath 😛
