I was also accepted, and I'm currently deciding between Dartmouth and BU. I'm interested in Social and Behavioral Sciences (chronic disease prevention (AIDs/STDs- adolescent and minority health)
Any advice or insight on deciding between these two schools?
Thanks!
Hey 902,
Congrats on your acceptance to The Big Green. I've learned a few things about Dartmouth that may provide some help in deciding which program to attend.
1. Dartmouth seems to be emphatically and unapologetically oriented to those who want to enter into US Health Care. The institute is founded on creating strong agents for change with regard to how health care is delivered in the United States.
2. Having spoken to a few students and graduates, it seems that a strong quantitative background is essential, even more so than in other comparable MPH programs.
3. According to the Acceptance Package that I received in the mail, the post graduation pursuits of TDI graduates is broken down as follows:
-- 45% Enter Health Care (clinical & public health practice and research in health care systems)
--39% Further education (medical and other grauduate schools)
--6.5% Proprietary (consulting, pharmaceutical industry)
--3.2% Government (local, state & federal)
--2.2% Nonprofit
--3.8% University/Research
--<1% Other
My personal plans after graduation are to pursue the Graduate Healthcare Administration Training Program for residents & fellows with the Department of Veterans Affairs. I am passionate about changing the way that VA delivers healthcare and this program seems perfectly suited to act as a vehicle by which I can meet my goals. You can read more abou the program at the following link, if you are interested.

Good luck in whichever program you decide to attend!
