Like many others, I 've decided to get my MPH first then an MD. I think this way I can really delve into the field rather than pick up just an extra degree on my way to "MD Land".

I've recently been accepted to Dartmouth's program. I can't really compare it to others since its the only program I applied to. I like the really small class sizes and purported close faculty interaction. But its a fairly young program. Besides this, I've yet to hear of anyone's opinions/experiences here.

I know that the MPH is handled mostly through the medical school. But I don't how the program is ranked/perceived. I guess since its not a school of public health per se, usnews won't have any stats?

Any thoughts about this school/program/area would be much appreciated!

If you perform a search on CECS dartmouth you will find many opinions on the program. Some like it and others don't. I don't know what to think about the program either because of all the mixed reviews. Nevertheless, I am still applying to the program. How quickly did you hear back? Was it about two weeks after you submitted your application? And congrats on the acceptance!

Thanks. It took about a month to hear back. Once your file gets forwarded to the committee the admissions office will send you an email telling you this.

was it a month once all your LOR/transcripts/test scores came in? also, how competitive is the program to get into? i can't really gauge how the admissions process works.

do they just email you once you get accepted?

Yep. Just over a month till they got back to me (after everything was in). As for competitiveness, I can't say as I haven't much experience in this area. But my scores and grades are competitive enough for medical school (hope this helps) and I've had some very unique experiences in medicine, public health, and health policy.

I found out over the phone when I had called to ask about the status.

oh ok. in the email they sent me once my file was complete, they said that it would take between 7-14 days, seems a whole lot shorter than a month. the weird thing is that usually adcomm's overestimate these things, maybe they are just really busy now.

like when i turned in my sophas app, they said it usually takes between 4-6 weeks but they took honestly 3 days.

are you applying to any med schools this year?

I applied in late November and heard back in late January. I also got accepted to the program. I'm visiting in two weeks to check out the school/program/area, but from what I've heard it's very nice. I'll post my thoughts and maybe some pictures when I get back from my trip.

Dartmouth was my first choice for MPH given its program, but I'll make my final decision after my visit. As of now, I'm pretty much 80% sure I'm attending though.

WHO, are you currently an undergrad? I'll be graduating in May and be applying for med school this summer.

Hey Score,

I'm in the program right now and am getting ready to graduate this june - just wondering what kind of "horror stories" you've heard?

how did your visit go, medfool24? I was also accepted but I don't think I am going to attend. i've heard some horror stories of the program so i am not really sure what to think. also, i would rather do a program affiliated with a med school but thats just my preference.

so i guess its columbia for next year then?

Also, just to let you know - the MPH degree is granted by DMS and not Dartmouth College

I got back from my trip early last week, I've been sort of busy.

Anyway, the facilities are real nice, and they're moving to a new building for just for the CECS students. It's good and bad in the sense it'll be brand new but it's off campus so you have to drive or take a bus. Hanover itself is beautiful (as is New England in my opinion). The MPH program is actually affiliated with the Med school, like thesultan said earlier. I like the program because it's a year, and they've changed it so that it'll be four terms starting in the summer now, so it's less intense and is also fully accredited. I met Dr. O'Conner who was the one who started the program and everyone in the office was really nice.

I don't know how intense last year's program was, but I bet it was really intense.

That's really all I have to say, I'm looking forward to starting the MPH Program in July!

Hey there - just been accepted to the Dartmouth MPH program and I wanted to see if anyone who has gone would be willing to tell me about their time there. I realize this thread is old but figured I would give it a shot.

Thanks!

I'll second this as I am seriously considering Dartmouth's program as well.

hey guys,

I can't find the deadline anywhere on when to apply for the program. They're not a part of SOPHAS so I was wondering when you guys started to submit your applications.

Thanks😕
