So, just got my DAT scores back
- I'm a canadian applicant, looking to go to dental school in the US
- I am a male
- Science major in psychology
- I have a 3.59 GPA
- I have done many EC's and volunteering
- DAT scores:
PAT: 22
BIO: 21
GC: 20
TS: 20
AA:20
RC: 18
- is it good enough or should I rewrite
- also, I have only done 20 hours of shadowing. How much more do you suggest that I do before I apply in June

Thanks!

I would not retake. You are definitely competitive. You may not have the "highest" DAT but your scores are very consistent and above average. Now all you have to do is write a killer PS and get some solid LOR's. Good luck!

p.s. try and get at least 100 hrs of shadowing.

Thanks! I really appreciate the input!
I know a lot of dentists around, I have the opportunity to observe an array of general and cosmetic dentists and some orthodontists. Some are very well known across North America it seems. It's just a matter of me driving to their practices, do you think it matters where/who I observe or is it irrelevant?

Also, are you saying that anything less than a "killer" PS would be hurtful?
:p

No, it does not matter. Some schools such as Tufts require a LOR from a general dentist. I suggest shadowing both a general dentist and a specialist so you can get a feel of the difference between the two and show schools you would like to keep your options open and are up for exploring.

Killer PS = Don't submit until you have had dozens of people from different backgrounds look it over to give you reviews, idea's, feedback and grammar checks. Also, do not submit until you think it is PERFECT and make sure it all revolves around why YOU want to become a dentist. Don't write about anyone else, only you and make it personal. Give yourself adequate time to write.

As long as your personal statement is written in that font you should be fine

Just out of curiosity, where might you be applying?

Make sure you apply to Canadian friendly schools like Tufts and NYU. Don't spend a lot of money on state schools like Louisville, Ohio or UMDNJ because you will most likely be rejected. Canadian applicants don't have the same shot at US based schools so just watch out for that.

Tufts hasn't been Canadian-friendly in the past few years. You might want to double-check before you apply there.

Temple, Tufts, OHSU, Michigan, or Minnesota for that guy if he could only pick one?
