Is it true that Davis accepts roughly one in four CA applicants? I read the Class of 2009 stats on the website, and if this is true, wow.

The stats are not so great for out-of-staters (eight out of 299).

where are you getting this information?

Not that you need my say in it, since you have the statistics in front of you, but from everything I've read/heard it's absolutely true that about 25% of CA residents get in a year. I think Davis' reputation of being difficult to get into has been mainly from not accepting many out-of-staters. From a report I read on the school (how it's addressing the veterinary-related needs of CA, the future directions it hopes to take), it seems like the numbers from last year's class are pretty average--that is, they typically get about 900 applicants a year. They didn't give the typical breakdown as far as resident versus nonresident, but I read somewhere else--I think on another school's advising webpage--that they had received about 500 or so application from CA residents, and that was several years ago--I think it was between 2002 and 2004. So it seems like they're in a holding pattern, percentage-wise.

is it possible to give us a link to that report? i'd be interested in reading it.

I thought that was medical school applicants for a minute and I was thinking wow they are taking a lot higher percentage than when I was there. it was like 5700 applicants for 92 spots and about 180 acceptances given out. I think it's fallen a lot since then.

Incidentally--looking at this report again just reminded me--did you guys know that they're all finished with their new instructional facilities at Davis? (or they will be by the time classes start) What this means is that not only will they be having all the lectures out there (unfortunately freshman labs will still be in the old building on the main campus--at least as of now), but with the extra room they're expanding the class size from 122 to 131--9 extra spots, and they're all for CA residents. So I guess our chances will be a little better than usual! 🙂

SWEET!

Word on the street is that SDN users get first dibs on those 9 spots...
