Davis Final Decisions

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Stay in there guys.. Remember, may 15 is a big day. Things will definitely start to pick up at the end of this month.

I know it's tough to have all the uncertainty right now, but it will all be over in a few months. Stay strong

Can I nail bite with you? Maybe we should try yoga?

nothing here either (of course). this process has been so stressful lately for me and my SO. I really just wish Davis would give me something concrete so we can make job/moving plans in CA or elsewhere.

Ditto... I called them last week and nothing. No decision made, don't know when they will make a decision, they are behind... blah, blah, blah.

hi everyone, i interviewed at davis in the first week of november and was put on hold in the middle of january.

ive been reading this thread off and on for the last few months and had nothing to contribute/not been a member, but finally convinced myself to sign up.

anyway, i just got off the phone with our buddy terri, and she says that people on the hold list can expect to hear "no earlier than june".

good luck everyone, and happy waiting

hard to hear, but not unexpected. Thanks for calling, SteveR! And welcome to the group!

thanks a lot kbear

i tried to ask whether it would be "beginning or end of june" but the elusive ms. hall refused to clarify past "earlier than june"

Welcome Steve and thank you for the info! We are a discontented little bunch but friendly 😛

yes, we are a friendly bunch! btw, I am interested in what back-up Davis plans you all have since we won't hear anything til June (or later). Are you all heading somewhere for sure? On other WL's? about to re-apply?

I think I am probably headed to the East Coast. I am staying on two UC waitlists though (Davis and LA) and I'm not giving up hope yet (although I cannot complain because I think the school I'm headed to is a great option for both me and my SO). Hopefully we all have some good options out there!

Has anyone who interviewed in March heard anything yet? My interviewer said that I should here from them at the beginning of May, but so far... zip. I just tried calling the admissions office twice and no one answered. Are they gone for the day or what?

Good questions kbear. I also am extremely lucky in that I have an acceptance elsewhere, but like you it is not in California. Davis starts sooner than my other school does, so I will start making preliminary plans to move I guess if I don't hear any good news by the end of this month, but I won't have left the state until early August anyway.

What are you and your SO going to do?

"June"? 🙁 Everytime I see this thread get bumped I excitedly check to see if decisions are finally going out, but guess we have a bit to go still...*sigh* The time frame is really going to test people's committment to Davis.

I'm going midwest if Davis doesn't come through. I know I will be happy there but it would be nice to be 75 miles away from my SO versus the 2700 miles away. Don't get me wrong though, I know how lucky I am to have an acceptance. Luckily for me also, my other acceptance begins school after Davis, so that should be all sorted out with enough time.

unfortunately, davis is my only chance at this point. just my luck that this year they are so far behind

if not, i'll work for a year or two and strengthen my extra-curriculars (i think the weakest part of my app) and reapply.

i interviewed in march also and have not heard anything. i called today and i was told that i should find out in a couple of weeks.

I had an April interview and I'm still waiting.

i interviewed in february and still haven't heard =(

I also had a february interview and still have not heard

Interviewed in March and haven't heard anything yet. I am on a waitlist in Philadelphia, but UC, Davis is my last shot for an acceptance this year. Davis has always been my dream school, so this wait is killing me!!

Did you ever sort out your biochem requirement, calcox, or are you going to scramble for summer school if you're offered an acceptance?

Hey, Notdeadyet. I did sort it out, I opted to take it at the local state university. Luckily they had a night class with a professor that is very amenable to the "open university" students. Here's hoping that all of us that have had to go out of our way to fulfill the pre-reqs get rewarded when all is said and done, cheers.

no earlier than june??????? omg i think i'm going to have grey hair and wrinkle by the time i hear from them again... sigh...

it would be a nice graduation present though...

anyone know how do they notify us holdee's when, by some wonderful miracle, we are accepted? i will on the opposite side of the earth starting early june, so i don't know how i'm even going to find out...

probably by email

where are you going to be?

Just how many people are still waiting to hear back after their interview?

Well, I think they are just reviewing the February folks now (correct me if I'm wrong) so they've got to get through Feb, March, and April. Plus all of us on hold. Seems like a ton of people, right?

I interviewed in April and I called today and was told that we April folks might not even hear back till June. 😱

Geez, how long does this process take?

I just withdrew (post-acc)...hope you all hear good news soon. Davis really needs to get their act together.

with Davis, forever. seriously. just ask Mr. Belding.

I like Davis and would love to attend, but am I the only one that thinks the whole process makes them appear incredibly disorganized? A lot of this confusion could be rectified quite easily, just by sending out a blanket explanation email to all remaining active applicants.

Sorry for the delays, blah blah blah. Half way filled, blah blah blah. Hope to have designated everyone either accept, reject or deny by this date, blah blah blah, thank you for your interest and your patience

Is that so hard? Why do you play hard to get Davis?

You do have to cut them a little bit of slack because they did make a major move this year, what with a whole new campus and such, which I'm sure you could all tell (those of your who interviewed in the past couple of months) is just in the settling in mode.

That said, the whole application process (mostly because of the waitlist racket) is already difficult enough to endure, that any major screwup really throws a wrench in the whole works for many people.

On another note, since plenty of other schools seem to make decisions haphazardly (ie, UCLA waitlisting Feb interviewers before November interviewers here anything at all), is anyone sure here that the Davis February interviewers will necessarily here any sooner than the Aprils? I mean, at this point, they might all be sitting in a giant pile in the middle of a conference room table with a bunch of folks sitting paralyzed around it.

And on yet another note, thanks for the withdrawal PG.

You may be right, but looking at the people that are posting acceptances they do seem to be going in order... albiet at a glacial pace.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the notion that Davis is disorganized - with the caveat that Davis' admin. is made of a few disorg. ppl. Example: When I was given instructions for checking my financial aid information online, the first step included entering a campus ID number that I was to have received from the admissions office - which I had not. The financial aid director was very surprised to hear about this, which is better than the alternative (that the disorg. was of no suprise)

At this point it is clear to me that it's not "Davis" that is the problem, so much as one or two people within the admissions department that are disorganized. As Davis continues to grow and attract great medical students this problem will work itself out as new members of the administration replace older ones - imho.

As an entering Aggie this is one area I intend to reconcile for next year's class.

I really agree with you, Calcox. And Chessmess, I also tend to think that the office is not reflective of the school, but unfortunately the way they have treated applicants this year leaves us with a bitter taste and inevitably does reflect poorly on the school.

And while I agree that the move has certainly changed things for the school and has probably set them back, it is hard for me to cut them too much slack for this. It doesn't seem the move shouldn't really affect the process as much as it has. I assume the adcom should still have been able to meet even though the school was moving. I mean, come on, only 24 people at second look?? That's kind of embarassing, right??

I just think Davis needs to get its act in gear. And aren't classes starting earlier this year than in previous years? Sorry, I feel like I have been pretty patient (Oct interview, Jan hold, still waiting....), but Davis has made the stress of this process much worse. Many of us need to make moving plans soon and some of us have SO's that need to find new jobs!

compared to other medschool admins, I feel Davis' has been much more responsive, courteous, organized, etc.. that's not to say that they aren't slow in the admittance game. they admitted they were this year due to the move from Davis to Sac.

best of luck guys. there will be post-may15th movement for sure. (i am also w/drawing my acceptance)

We need more people like you on this thread! 🙂

Thanks to everybody who withdrew and to all the people who keep calling and getting new information and posting it. I really think it will come down to early July and the people who have stuck it out. It is annoying and inconvenient but oh well. Mostly I feel bad for my future landlord/roommate(s) at the school where I am planning to go unless Davis lets me in. How are you all handling that issue?

Yeah, I haven't really figured out how to handle that if it does come up (not to mention I will have to move cross country again if I'm already settling at my other school). Leases can be pretty hard to get out of. I think I am probably going to wait as long as I can to make some decisions. It would be great if we got news in early July.

as for housing, i'm sure there'll be other acceptee's that were planning on going to davis and then heard from another place last minute and have to move away. then we can just take their housing? or we can build cardboard boxes together...

but indeed this west coast or east coast thing is painful. this even determines what i'm going to go with all my chunky winter sweaters and such. storage or mailboxes? haha.

i'll be in s.e. asia for most of june. so i won't be reachable by phone for sure but i think a phone call would be better for us, it's so late already, i'm fine w/ making a decision on the spot: YES YES YES! or something like that. can i tell them to call my parents instead?

I believe you can designate someone to answer for you in just such a situation. A friend of mine was in a small town in Mexico when she was applying to medical school, and she authorized her father to respond to interview, wait list, and acceptance offers. I'd call the school and ask what you'd need to do to arrange that. I imagine they'd want a request in writing.

To everyone in this thread: I'm sorry the wait has been so onerous. Rumor (and it really is just a rumor) has it that in addition to the move (which did set them back; the admissions office was all but shut down for most of December), the adcom wanted to "try something different" this year. In the past, the class was pretty much full by February or March. This year, I guess they wanted to hand out fewer early acceptances so that no one was "interviewing for a wait list spot." I don't think this has worked out as they hoped. Here's hoping you all hear very, very soon. :luck:

Thanks, evade. I think you're a wonderful poster and I really do hope I can join you at Davis. As much as I complain about the admissions process this year at Davis, I still really really want to be there and am hoping for the best.

Hey all, was just accepted at Davis and wanted to share my info. I interviewed in late March and just received a phone message from my student interviewer saying I was accepted and that I would receive a package in the mail soon. Interestingly, I had emailed my faculty interviewer at the end of last week to tell him I would definitely choose Davis over the schools which have already accepted me (which he had asked about during my interview). Don't give up hope, 'cuz they're still accepting. Good luck all!
