Davis Final Decisions

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm sure that the five people who have gotten their acceptances will have a lot of fun at the revisit weekend.

 yeah, and it seems that several of the people on here aren't even keeping the acceptance or would have already withdrawn. (Although why does someone wait several months for a decision if they intend to withdraw as soon as they find out they're accepted??) i hope that means great things for those of us on hold!! 👍

I may get burned alive by telling you the reason...:meanie: just want to keep my interview/acceptance ratio at 100% straight. It's easy to get addicted to something like that.

kbear may not flame you but I will....... Actually, its really not easy to get addicted to something like that....don't you think it's a little pathetic? I mean even a little bit? Is your life really that meaningless to the point where you need validation from a medical school to let you know your self worth??
I mean, if you know you have no intention of going, you should just withdraw...

And who the hell puts their signature as "US News Top 20 school"???? Why don't you just have a signature that says "HEY PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

oh, that's really harsh, but I can't stop laughing. You words are accepted. 🙂
sorry if you feel offended by the signature, that's just temporary and for the sake of anonymity. I promise I will change it before May 15th. Do you think "US news top 10 school, class of 2011, HEY PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO ME!" is better, then let me know:laugh: ,btw, am I the first one here to have a signature like that?
I'm kidding, but, serious, you are going to work with all kinds of people later in your career, maybe even with someone pathetic like me,so learn to laugh it off sometimes, just relax and stay healthy. 🙂
If you are still agitated, don't be, one more post, I'll be out of pre-allo for good.

interesting. i'm not gonna flame you because I think you already know there are plenty of people who would die for your Davis acceptance. but thanks for being honest. and have fun at your US News Top 20 School.

Wow, I mean... wow. That...sucks...

Slightly off topic here, but I have been searching high and low on these boards for any info on INTERVIEW QUESTIONS that UC Davis asks.

Has this info been posted anywhere?

Thanks for your help.

I can tell you my experiance, both interviews (one student, one faculty) were very conversational. My faculty interview let me guide the interview, just got to know eachother. My student had a sheet of questions, but only used them as starting points. Some of those questions were:
-What do you think the biggest problem in healthcare is today
-Would you go into medicine if you were paid like a teacher
-What makes you unique
-Why would you be a good fit a davis

I had some of my best interviews at Davis. They were both very conversational. I felt like my faculty interviewer was really trying to get to know me, and my student interviewer was one of the coolest people I've met during this whole interview process. I do remember a question about healthcare and healthcare disparities, though, so it might be good to brush up on your knowledge in that area.

At Davis, I had a really good student interview, probably the best interview I had in this entire process, but then with the faculty interview I botched it up really bad..I rambled a lot, unintentionally didn't answer the questions, and I even just started laughing for like 2 minutes when I realized how badly the interview was going. I had figured that I had already screwed up my chances.
So just be prepared for any type of question they throw at you, from ethical and even bizarre ones too (creativity goes a long way)! Oh, and be concise with your answers if the question is just asking one specific thing, and then expand upon it as the interview unfolds. Good Luck:luck: cc8

Question: if you still haven't heard back but would go if accepted and you want to see the student-run clinics and eat ice cream and meet the 5 people in the class of 2011 who might be your classmates are you hypothetically allowed to crash this weekend thing or will they be checking AMCAS ID numbers at the door?

Just wondering for no particular reason. 😉

anyone know how many acceptances have been given out, how many are left, and if any are going to be given out this week before 2nd look?

I'm so excited, yet anxious for UCDavis..I've been waitlisted everywhere pretty much, considering how my interviews are all March and beyond.

I'm praying for the best and have my UCDavis interview coming up real soon.

well, after waiting since early november, i finally heard from davis today. i called the office (for the 5th time in the last 3 months) asking if there has been a decision made on my application and the voice on the other side said, "well, a decision has been made and the admissions committee has offered you an acceptance." i felt the joy, the i-just-want-to-get-up-and-dance feel, and i called anyone i knew who would care. good luck to all of you out there (those who post and those who don't) still waiting on Davis. i know how difficult it is to wait; but persevere, send an update to them (even if they tell you not to), and send out good vibes. hey it worked for me. and now....to the bar!

Congrats febrile! And thanks for the vibes. lol. But yeah, just thought I'd share a little tidbit I came across the last time I called Davis. Apparently they are officially currently reviewing their January interviews (I say officially because I saw some February interviews receive acceptances a few days back). So yeah, hopefully that helps knowing approximately where in the process they are. Good luck all!:luck:

Just a heads up for the january interviewees... there are several sub-committees and while some of them are likely reviewing january's folks, some are far, far behind. I'm sure they are reviewing some of you guys, but for those stuck in a slower committee you might have a bit of a wait. Just don't think something is wrong if other people that interviewed around the same time start hearing and you don't...

That actually makes sense Mr. Belding; it would definitely explain why some ppl from some groups hear before others.

Nah I think you're agitated that you didn't get into a US News top 10 school. 😀

I got in. I'm in CA now. I'll be at the second look weekend only on saturday. I've got a funeral on friday 🙁. from what i received, there's at least 30 people accepted 🙂.

Got waitlisted at the PSTP, apparently 'small'.

Congrats, Peri!! But very sorry to hear about the funeral.

Are you thinking of attending Davis over SF???

Those of you going to the second look please post when you get back and tell us what you thought!

After obsessively checking this thread every day for months now (i even signed up for the nightly updates), I finally decided to call the Davis admissions office today.

They said that my timing was good and that they had just gotten my file back from the AC and after verifying my AMCAS ID, they told me I was accepted! I'm so excited since Davis is my first choice. I really hope all of the others here who have been waiting patiently hear good news too. (especially those who interviewed ages ago...)

I interviewed on January 19th. They said that they'll be sending out a letter sometime next week. They didn't mention whether I could go to the second look tonight, but since I'm currently in San Diego, I probably wouldn't be able to drive there in time...

congrats, vslee!!!! now go have a fantastic celebration weekend!

Hey Guys. I got an email from Terri today saying that my application is being held for further consideration (post-interview). What does this essentially mean and have you heard any stories of people getting in after that email? Thanks guys. And everyone still waiting, I'm rooting for all of us!

I interviewed end of October and got that e-mail back in Jan/Feb. I'm still waiting and haven't heard of anyone getting accepted post-email. I think Kbear mentioned that the e-mail said something about hearing back after everyone has been interviewed. Essentially I think they want to compare us to other applicants and pick who they think is best (rolling admissions my ass!..Sorry, it was a rough day).

They told me they were trying to release all decisions within the next two weeks yesterday. We do have a history of miscommunication, Davis and I, though...

 Mr. Belding, I'm really counting on both of us getting in!!!

hi all,

i interviewed in april and am joining the waiting game to hear back from Davis...

Come on, Davis, show me some love!

Hey Mr. Belding,

Who told you that 2 weeks from now they are releasing all decisions? That strikes me as a little ambitious since I know that lots of people interviewed in early April. Maybe they just decided to accept everybody who came in April to speed the process up.

I interviewed there last week and they said that they were hoping to let us know by mid-May but to contact the office if we hadn't heard from them by (!) end-of-June.

Sorry, I was referring to all the hold decisions. I spoke with Dr. Dagang.

wow, i really hope that's right!! Mr. Belding, I'm definitely leaning toward Rochester right now, but I'm still waiting to hear from a few other schools too. What about you?? BU is insanely expensive and can only really consider it over Rochester when I see what the fin aid looks like.

Have most people gotten their post-interview status updates via phone? email? or snail mail? It sounds like Davis hasn't sent out many physical letters from the postings on this board.

Know anyone who has gotten an actual letter of acceptance yet?

Not a peep via email. Snail mail is where it was at for me. Phone works too.

Not dead Yet, keep me posted brutha.

So what did people think of the second look? Details!

24.

(heard it from the 1st years. Didn't do a count myself, but there were NOT very many.)
Evade, I am hoping that this is an honest estimate and not some cruel joke!

If it is true, it gives this Holdie a ton of hope that I might still make it in 😀
(so excited at that number so far that I broke my own personal no-smiley-face rule)!

Wouldn't it make more sense to push their second look weekend back? I mean whats the point with only 24 people?

Steve, it probably would have made sense to push it back . . . but then since when has good sense ever been applied to medical school admissions? (I mean honestly, they haven't picked us yet. They must be crazy 😛 )

But yeah, the chances are pretty good that they're just farther behind in their process than usual, due to the movie to Sac-town and the rest of it. But that's just my idle speculation.

Does anyone know if they've finished going through their Jan. interviews yet?

Is anybody going to give us the details of second look? Come on, I need tiny pieces of insignificant information to fill the seemingly endless waiting period till my fate is decided.

doesn't seem like we'll get many details if there were so few people attending. wow, i really can't believe it was so few!! but that also gives me hope since I am still on hold. COME ON, DAVIS!!! i heart you!!

Sorry, I was referring to all the hold decisions. I spoke with Dr. Dagang.

omg 2 weeks? seriously? that's a lot faster than i expected! when i called right after i got my email, terri definitely said end of may or something. that's good. end my pain ealier, please.

Apparently a bunch of decisions were made on April 13th, at least thats what the office told me. Why couldnt they have emailed us?! Then we could have gone to the second look =(. Anyway, I interviewed early Feb, so anyone who interviewed around then may want to call them!

But I just got in so YAY! Im happy! Time for a Tuesday drink!👍

As much as I would like to believe that decisions for us folks on the hold list are coming in the next few weeks, I am weary of getting my hopes up.

I talked to the admissions office earlier today and they said our hold files won't even be touched until they are completely done with interviews toward the end of April. I asked if I would hear something in May and she repsponded with a highly doubtful "maybe." SIGH. I am going to plan for not hearing anything til June or July so that if anything happens in the near future it'll just be a pleasant surprise. I just wish applicants were treated better in this process. Davis and I are really struggling... this is such a one-sided relationship.
