Good line, btw. I may steal this...I think my sanity eloped with my patience

Just when I think I can't be any more demoralized about this situation, I find out I really don't know my limits for demoralization...
Good to see you, too, Xtremeangel. The waiting just doesn't end, does it? I feel like I'll be compulsively checking email well into winter....
How long does it seriously take to review a file?
THey only interview 400-500 candidates...what about the schools that interview like 1000!!!!
Why aren't they this slow?
usually i would say that slow review is a good thing. they don't just accept people based on numbers but really look into their activities, statement, interview feedback etc. but davis is taking this too the extreme... maybe they're doing full background checks through the fbi now. ha...
When UC Davis says they interview 500 students...
Does that include those that were invited but decided not to go?

I think it is 400. That is what we were told when I interviewed. 400 interviews, 250 admissions offers, 100-something spots (104?)
I'll keep beating the Davis drum up until the semi gets loaded with my wife and I's apartment headed for New England. I'm willing to do what it takes to attend school at UC Davis, but I won't uproot/move from coast-to-coast twice in one month. It's harder to pack up a second time and switch schools at the last minute when you've already convinced your partner to move once. sigh.
Someone earlier in the thread indicated that they are meeting 2-3x/week to hurry things up. I was surprised, as I haven't been seeing a lot of movement (yay or nay) on threads like these...
UCSF interviews and accepts about the same number as UCD and there's a LOT more traffic on that thread of acceptances. About 5x more. There are plenty of Davis-interviewee posters on SDN. Just a surprising few who have gotten answers back.Other schools may have a lot of posters on SDN, but that school might accept and interview a lot more people.. (think Drexel for example). Davis interviews WAYY fewer students, which gives fewer potentials to post on these forums.
Your schemes must come in grander sizes than most. By June, most schools I know of have accepted/rejected/waitlisted all interviewees and are working through the waitlist. There are folks here on the thread who feel a bit of frustration because they haven't heard back from their interviews in February. In the grand scheme of things, believe it or not, it is still pretty early.
Postive thinking is a great idea. Davis has not gone through the applications of lots of folks from the Feb/Mar/Apr interviews yet. There are lots of spots available out there, it's just going to take longer for them to fill than most schools. There are still spots left. I am hopeful! Let's all think positive. KurlyQue, I am in the same boat!
No doubt. I like to think I'm dealing with the waiting like a pro, until my wife looks up at me expectantly each time I check email, wanting to know what side of the country we'll be moving to. And since she's a teacher, her possibility of finding employment for the next academic year is dropping rapidly. The thought of her doing an office job she hates while I'm hardly there due to med school decreases my talent at waiting patiently.Notdeadyet, I'm not trying to single you out by any means as you are always even-keeled in your posts but I am really starting to find it funny how this thread has gotten more and more cranky over time.
I hear that. I do think SDN is fulfilling its role nicely, though. A forum is a nice place to go out and blow off steam. The alternative is to interrupt a friend in the middle of a story in some bar, grabbing him by the lapels and yelling "WHEN WILL I KNOW?!?!?" That's a buzz-kill for everybody.Believe me, I have done my fair share of venting here. It started out so positive and happy, and I find it funny how we are all so frustrated.
Notdeadyet,
Davis has a reputation for being pretty laid back . . . and UCSF has one for having a balls-to-the-wall-hardcore-we're-better-than-everyone-else attitude.
When you are accepted off the waitlist, you are obligated to withdraw any acceptances (by now you'd have 0 or 1), but not waitlists. This is why you still have waitlist movement well into summer.oh i got a question about multiple waitlists. so if one accepts me, am i obligated to withdraw from everything else? or can i accept that but still maybe wait for the other waitlist?

Huh. That definitely hasn't been my experience. But most of my experience with UCSF is form working there for a few years back in the late 90's. Maybe the personality has changed a lot since then. Back in the day I was surprised how diverse, quirky, and laid back the student body was.haha i interviewed at both schools and it's so true.
Just got my rejection email (interviewed in April)
Good luck to everybody else! I am off to Michigan![]()
Thank you kbear. That is very sweet of you 🙂 Now that my initial sadness is over I am very excited to be able to plan my move and commit to a school mentally. Limbo is a big suck as you guys all know. I am off to buy a parka now. 😀 Suerte to everybody else!
wow...this is not a good day for alot of us.
you know, I don't think there are many spots left though. It's June. Maybe the limited spots is the reason?
*anxiously waiting* but at this pt, I'm so nervous, I don't mind waiting more just to postpone the anxiety.
Let me know when you learn what those cold-winter types wear when the snow comes. I may be needing something warm and down-y for Vermont...
