Davis Final Decisions

I'm a shell of a man. I actually got excited that someone else posted a haiku.

Sweet jesus.

I'm a shell of a woman. I actually posted a haiku in this thread.

<-- has been studying for boards. For almost a month. 1.5 weeks remaining. Kill me now. . .I can't take the pain. Or the terror. :scared::scared::scared:

Haha, isn't that uplifting, for a thread about getting in? 😛

there, there *hug*

see? now don't you feel better?

now go tell the director of your college that davis needs more belding in it's life.

hey everyone. today i spoke with lanina who was very helpful. she estimated that all applicants on hold would be given a final decision of waitlist, accept, or not accept in 3-4 weeks time. orientation begins end of july, so that means we will be hearing back no later than then at least. best wishes everyone.

That's just terrific. I guess I can just live out of my car for a bit while I wait to hear back from Davis.

So the "lucky" ones should have 2-3 weeks to re-locate to davis and to get it together. Yikes.

3-4 weeks... gosh...

anyone up for renting an RV and camping outside their office till we get our notices?

I wonder why they aren't going in order...weird...(besides the whole different committees hypothesis)

this is so frustrating. i want to wait it out, but i am also making plans to move to New England and need to secure housing. what a crazy, crazy process... One that I really hope ends ASAP.

Peering deeply for a silver lining, if you're waitlisted, you'll only have to wait on the waitlist for about two weeks. Score!

I've got to vent a little. Am I the only person (especially you holdies) that is absolutely disgusted with the way this process with Davis continues to work out? I find myself in the last couple days, as I postpone all of the expensive things like flights and the like to my other acceptance, getting angrier and angrier. I've got my SO crying whenever I bring up the fact that I might have to give up on Davis before I hear back definitively from them. I've waited patiently and enthusiastically (of course at times slightly annoyed). I've sent the emails expressing my interest and gone out of my way to get prereqs done even though I am a non-trad and no other schools required them. I'm most definitely at the end of my rope and my patience might be all tapped out. It's at the point where if I wait and get it, its all terrific, but if I wait and don't get in, I'm an idiot for turning what should have been a 300 dollar flight into a 500 dollar one and having all the most convenient housing snatched up at the school that I attend... I really hope it all pays off for everyone. I don't know. If I was on a waitlist and if Davis had properly addressed all of the applicants already, it would be different. Being in this limbo is really crappy. It's all so unprofessional.

I'm a holdie and I definitely feel UR pain🙁. I actually just entered into an apartment lease @ UCI today😱. I still really REALLY want to go to Davis, but I've got to make preparations in case it doesn't pan out. It's kinda making me wonder, how late is an acceptance from Davis too late? I guess it's different for everyone, but with every day that passes by, I'm inching dangerously close to saying "too late" especially if I don't hear until LATE JULY?!!! UCI Orietation starts Aug 3rd! 😕 G-luck all!:luck:

Yep, I am in a VERY similar situation as you two and I honestly try not to think about Davis very much because i am a patient and happy person, but the whole situation irks me to no end. It's really hard to believe how unprofessional Davis has been this whole admissions cycle. Like calcox, it really affects my SO as well. He and our dog are coming with me wherever I go and it has been really stressful for us and his job situation. The school I'm planning to attend starts in late July and at some point (SOON) we are going to have to give up on Davis. Hard to believe, considering I have been waiting since OCTOBER for good news (or any news now) from them. I know that this application process sucks in general and there are many things to complain about, but Davis has stood out among others as being completely inconsiderate. I normally hate to complain, but at this point I have many gripes about Davis. And so do the others around me who realize how manipulating this process can be.

There, that was my bitter moment of the day. Just wanted to say I really understand what you guys are saying. And I really hope it works out well for us (at Davis or elsewhere).

I live in Sac... do you guys want me to go tp the shmancy new building?

I still haven't found a place to live in my (very expensive) alternate city because I am too stubborn to be realistic.

Really sucks for the people who are in Davis' purgatory who are reapplying already.

GODDAMN YOU DAVIS!!! DON'T YOU DARE STRESS OUT KBEAR'S DOG!!!!!

fo shizzle! the poor little guy senses uncertainty and he would love to give Davis a piece of his mind!

You guys are all awesome! I guess I want to put in my two cents into the whole uncertainty/frustration/annoyance experience. I totally agree that they are jerking us around. On the other hand, I felt pretty privelaged to be interviewed by them and I think that it should make us feel good. I'm only saying this because the uncertainty has been killing me for a while now, but today I reflected back on the whole process and decided that it was nice to be getting to the end of it (whoever was the silver lining guy...I agree, only 2-3 more weeks before we know). I know it totally sucks to not know where we are going...but it will all be over soon, and then we'll settle down into learning ten thousand billion little facts about the human body, make new friends, and be on our way to becoming doctors.

I'm so thankful for this little forum too. It's nice to vent 🙂

I got waitlisted 2 years ago and got in early July. If it is any comfort, I was told I was on the second half of the list and that my chances were slim. What worked for me, I think, was writing in update letters and showing my love for Davis. Good luck everyone. Like evade, i am in USMLE hell.

Congratulations. I think what is rubbing folks on the board a little raw is not the waiting that many of us are putting up with on waitlists, but waiting for a basic accepted/rejected/waitlist decision. Rolling in to mid-June without any kind of feedback, for folks who interviewed as far back as 8 months ago, is pretty frustrating.

I think that's a great idea once you're on a waitlist. For now, I think several folks were told not to bother with letters, as they probably wouldn't be read until primary decisions were made on applications.

Best of luck on the Step I....

Yeah, I am on hold and was still given the impression that our love letters would be thrown into recycling since they are so "swamped." I've sent several anyway, but I don't think they'll do a darn thing.

I'm just waiting for the letter in late July that says, "Sorry, since we were so behind, school is starting now and we never had time to give you a final decision. Best of luck elsewhere."

Oh no, it's going to be another bitter day and it's barely 8 o'clock. Just look at what Davis does to me....

I was thinking about this as I was complaining to my sis yesterday. Davis at this point is probably the latest to make decisions of every medical school in America, don't you think? It seems like all the schools I have seen on SDN had their waitlists formed my May 15th. I would have to think that the school I want so badly to attend is the most procrastinatory this year of all med schools! Wait, now they sound like me... Is this some sick karmic twist for all the times I waited until the night before to write a 10 page paper?!?

(I do intend for there to be a sense of levity to this post)

Was it because you got in somewhere you would rather attend or did their indecision finally wear you down?

ugh this whole thing just sucks.

i just signed the lease and put in deposit for my awesome townhouse in new england.

i think i set my deadline for davis at 7/10. if i don't hear by then, i will extend my summer vacation and start shipping my "winter" boxes.

Are you guys finding month-to-month leases? Or are you all planning on finding someone to fill them if you have to leave?

Sounds reasonable. When you're doing a cross country move, you need at least a few weeks to organize shipping, ship your stuff, fly cross country, find a place and set up house.

I signed a year lease in Vermont that starts in mid-July. I paid a $1K deposit that I'll have to kiss off if I don't find someone to take over the lease. You?

I'm doing the decidedly stupid hail-mary approach and not putting a deposit down on a place until Davis starts. That will give me 2 weeks to find a place and get across the country. I'm in a $hitty situation though; I already live in Sacramento...

That's what I'm talking about. Mr. Belding, that's more my style. I also figure that I'll be so incredibly busy with school that coordinating a tenant for an apartment that I have never set foot in would be a pain.

I'll be driving across the country without having secured a place to live. I figure it will all work out.

Also, not that I have any new info, but I called Davis yesterday. I was told that the extra committee they added is meeting 2-3 times a week and that they are trying to get everyone decisions by the end of the month.

I spoke to them as well and was told the same thing.

everyone? like everyone everyone, including the holds? oh please let that be true. then it's only a 2 week wait.

if i have to withdraw from my lease, i will just lose that deposit. i don't think you're obligated to find someone else to replace you right? i will just feel pretty bad cuz i got a roommate arranged already =(

but hopefully if we have to look for some place last minute in sac, we will find something other than a cardboard box cuz i won't be able to look at anything in person (abroad right now).

The woman I talked to said that they hoped to "get through" all the folks who haven't heard anything by end of month. I don't know if that was supposed to include folks who are on hold or not.

Personally, I'd suspect that you'll see folks on the thread who interviewed in March/April to start reporting back decisions, then I think Davis would move to the on hold folks. I wouldn't bother to guess when either would happen though.

I'm gonna be gone on a 4 day trip to Seattle...I'm so scared to come back and find a rejection in my e-mail box 😡

so scared, so scared

Call me dumb..but I like the hope and excitement and knowing I "MIGHT" have gotten in.

Oh, man, this studying is KILLING me. I have to review anatomy today, because I've already forgotten pretty much everything that I studied way back in the beginning of my cram-a-thon! Four more days for me. . .hope you get your little piece of hell over with soon, and that it goes well for you. 🙂

Holdies and those waiting for a decision, I'm still thinking of you. Hope they give you an answer really soon. :luck:

good luck evade.. you're going to do awesome. Hang in there!

do you automatically assume you're on hold? Davis told me they haven't made a decision and haven't placed me on hold or on a waitlist or whatever.

That's what I'm wondering..it's taken so long and they still haven't made ANY decision whatsoever on me...no hold, no rejection, no acceptance...

total limbo

I wouldn't assume you're on hold until they've told you so. Lots of folks haven't even had their file go before committee yet.

Hey guys,

I have been on this thing for a while but never posted. So i want to return the favor for all your insights.

Just called Teri and spoke with her on the situations of the HOLD And those still waiting. From what she told me, they are working on both groups of people to try to get a decision out by next week. To be honest, I hope it is true, but if you were like me calling about once a week since late May, they have said it would be done in a weeks time for a very long time. I hope this helps.

Good luck to everyone!!!!!!

I think they are slowly making it through those of us "on hold," I just got my rejection email. Good luck to those of you still waiting!!! Best wishes 🙂

wow. i am sorry to hear that, coral. I find it surprising that they are starting to get back to the holdies before others have heard anything, but I'm not complaining. I hope more of us hear soon and can get on with things either way.

Sorry to hear the news, Coral... Hope it's some consolation to not have to play the waiting game with them anymore...

Brutal, dude. I'm really sorry to hear that.

It smells like cow $hit here anyway...

Does anyone have any clue how full the class is and what chance the holdies might have at this point?? I also had them tell me that they are finishing up the April folks and we'd hopefully hear something in the next 2 weeks, but I forgot to ask about how the class is holding right now.

I'm very curious about how full the class is as well.

As to their finishing up the April folks, a friend of mine who interviewed in March has still heard nada. Maybe it's non-representative, but Davis isn't wrapping a bow on things just yet.

yeah, i figured they hadn't gotten back to some March folks. But the way they said it implied they were reviewing the last of the April people. Go figure. I am going to have put down a deposit and sign a lease for my other school in the next few days. ugh.

Waitlisted... and my personal saga continues...

For those that this info helps:

Interviewed mid-October, Held in January, Waitlisted in June, Accepted in ????

(That last bit is my power of positive thinking at work).

I got an email today placing me on the alternate list (although going from hold to alternate does not really seem like any difference). Anyone else get this??

hahah we must have posted at the same time. Glad you're in this with me, Calcox. My timeline is exactly the same as yours.

Hey guys,

This is my first post, but I interviewed early April and was just put on the alternate list too. Hope this helps!
