Davis Final Decisions

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey guys been lurking on this thread for awhile now and am pulling for everyone here!

Just found out today that I was waitlisted (interviewed in April) also. Good luck everyone.

Here's were I try to gauge my chances, is anyone so tired of this that they are going to refuse the alternate list and move on with their lives? I am in that debate myself right now.

the same thoughts are crossing my mind too, calcox. and it really isn't because i'm not into davis anymore. it's for my sanity and for all of the deposits we've been putting down elsewhere. I am going to talk it over with my fam and SO tonight. i'll probably say yes, but I know exactly what you mean. It would also be great to know where we stand on the waitlist.

hahah we must have posted at the same time. Glad you're in this with me, Calcox. My timeline is exactly the same as yours.

I'm pulling for you kbear12, the veterans have got to stick together. I'm hoping that a little interview seniority kicks in when they choose who to pull off of the alternate list.

I also received notice today of my alternate status. I don't quite know if there is a difference between being on the alternate list and the wait list, but I suspect they are one in the same.

Good luck to everyone.

Another frustrating thing about all of this timing: whereas in previous years there has been a ton of movement off of the waitlist, I don't see that happening this year. If you think about it, pretty much each spot opened is a trickle down effect. Someone makes into Harvard off of the waitlist and eventually we get into Davis. But it strikes me that most of that trickle has already occurred because we are so far from May 15th. Maybe I'm just being pessimistic, wouldn't be the first time, but I don't know how right now there would be a significant number of spaces opening up, which means...

Battle Royale!!

Oh and yes I am using alternate and waitlist interchangeably. Waitlist rolls off of my fingertips so much more easily.

Has anyone inquired as to the size of the alternate list? Does anyone know if Davis has an absolute deadline by which admitted students must commit to Davis?

I am now officially waitlisted at all the schools with which I interviewed. Argh. Just curious, how many of us alternates already have an acceptance? So far, I count 6 alternates.

I thought a person is only allowed to hold 1 acceptance after May 15??

Anyhow, I think the alternate list is pretty large. I interviewed mid-April, probably my worst possible interview but I was still put on the alternate list much to my surprise. I've been rejected for better performances. I went into illegal things and lame answers for how I've helped people and everything. Oh well.

Got the same email today. I am just way too exhausted from the whole process. 😎

I got an email today placing me on the alternate list (although going from hold to alternate does not really seem like any difference). Anyone else get this??

i am not holding more than one acceptance. by "deposits" plural i meant, school, housing, etc. Securing housing can be costly.

Yikes, sorry to hear the news, Calcox, kbear, tangledupinblue, et al. That's pretty crummy. Hope it leads to good things, though. Davis might find that since it's so late in the game, some folks have moved on to other pastures and they'll get more movement off the alternative list than they think?

Got robbed at gunpoint last night less than 50 yards from my house (which is in a very pleasant SF neighborhood), so a rejection from Davis this afternoon would be a really nice capper on the week.

jesus christ NDY, I'm glad you're still alive. Just last week I heard about an ex-coworker who had been murdered...it's a crazy world out there, and we can all be thankful at times like these.

I'm pulling for you and Davis NDY.

Sorry to hear about your ex-coworker, Chess. That sucks. Puts things in perspective, doesn't it?

Thanks, bud. Fingers crossed...

Also very sorry to hear that, but I'm glad you're okay. And if you escaped this mass waitlisting, perhaps there is still good news coming your way. And that could really capp off a week, or start a fantastic one. good luck!

Hi, long-time lurker, first time poster here.
i got waitlisted today too. I just put a deposit down for an apartment in chicago this morning, but I accepted the spot on the waitlist anyway =P
I didn't think I'd be able to stomach it if it came down to this, but I think I may actually wait till the end of july.

i interviewed in feb, got put on hold at the end of may, and developed an ulcer inbetween.

Wow...seems like today was the day for everyone to be waitlisted....

As for me, still NO DECISION. Am I the only one that still has not heard a final decision?

I interviewed in April.

waitlisted, but declined it. hope it goes to someone else more excited about davis than me. at this point, frustration with their "process" was what sealed the deal for me.

I'm worried that a lot of folks will have bitter thoughts when they hear Davis down the road because of this app cycle.

I think that for the admissions department this cycle, it is a reputation well-earned. That's not to be mean, but sometimes its good to call a spade a spade. Hopefully when its all said and done, the department does a self-evaluation and makes changes for next cycle.

I'm sure they're going to do or have done a lot of navel gazing about this cycle. I have to think it really had a lot to do with the move. I haven't heard of Davis or any other medical school cutting things so close to the wire before. I think next cycle's applicants will have a much easier go of it.

I don't know if this has anything to do with anything, most likely not, but Dr. Bera has declined the offer to continue to be the admissions director, so they're somewhere (most likely the very beginnings) of the process of reforming their admissions staff... hopefully next year will be a lot smoother with the move done and the staff set.

Dr. Mark Henderson will now be the Associate Dean of Admissions. I interviewed with him at UCD and thought he was nice and easy to talk to.

I'm on the alternate list too. good company i think =) what are our chances of getting in off this thing anyway?

Haven't they told you what part of the list you're on yet? The office won't give you an exact number, but will give you an idea if you are on top half or lower half. Terri is also nice about telling you about your chances so you can plan ahead.

Did anyone give Terri a call? I tried all morning and kept getting the machine. I didn't leave a message as I had a feeling a ton of people would bother her and she wouldn't have time to return a call. I'll give it another shot this afternoon.

As of today, the alternate list is not ranked. There will be an adcom meeting in the next weekish to place alternates into tiers. She said they will send an email about our status (1st, 2nd, 3rd tier) and how the alternate list is processed after that meeting.

Inspired by other SDN non-contributors coming out, I have finally taken the 2 minutes to register on SDN after only reading these posts forever.

I am on the alternate list too.

My current dilemma is whether to start an application for next year yet or keep waiting. I have no acceptances and 4 waitlists. It's awesome.

It is good to know that Davis will tier the waitlist "soon". Thanks everyone for sharing the info.

Other than Ihateverbal and myself, are there any other of the March/April interview crowd who still haven't heard boo from Davis? Curious if they're still holding to the idea of getting word back by end of week.

have you tried calling them? i am hoping you slipped through the cracks and they just forgot to notify you of your acceptance last week!

Yeah, I just got off the phone with them. They said that a decision hasn't been reached yet (she couldn't tell if they'd met to discuss my app or not) and that they're hoping to have all decisions out by end of this week "or early next week".

That last part worries me. Sounds like they're resigned to not deciding on folks by end of month...

they still haven't reviewed everyone?? crazy crazy process.

Hey! I just got a call from Terri saying I've been accepted. I was just waitlisted on Friday, so I have no idea how I'm already off, but I thought I'd pass it on to anyone reading this. Good luck to all!

How are some people hearing back more than two times when others have not been reviewed even once? I'm so confused how this works...

I feel like one of the very few left who havent even herad a decision at all....I wonder what that means??????

Has anyone been able to get a more specific date on this?

I tried to pin her down but she wasn't having it

i'm on the alternate list too. i feel like EVERYONE got put on it. geez thanks Davis...

i wouldn't be surprised if they put most people on it and didnt review us thoroughly. they are running out of time and that would be the easiest thing for them to do.

It feels like most people have already heard of a decision at this point...except for a couple such as notdeadyet and myself....

I think they'll start tiering the waitlist soon.

A friend mentioned that his waitlist letter mentioned that the class was full. I called the office, asked specifically, and they confirmed: the class is full. Anyone who hasn't heard by now is looking for a waitlist spot at best.

Everyone receiving waitlists and no acceptances lately makes a lot more sense. Grrrr....

Then there's those that absolutely have no decision...

I called and theres still no decision. 🙂

This process rocks

I just got this e-mail response from Terri regarding the waitlist:

"We'll know more once the list is ranked (no later than 7/6/07).
Give me a call then and I'll give you as much information as I can."

Yeah, well, they'll definitely tell us yay/nay to the waitlist spot by July 6th. Anything earlier than that is pennies from heaven...

Will the waitlist even move? It's already July almost.

Will the waitlist even move? It's already July almost.
All waitlists move. The problem here is that the waitlist is only being generated six weeks after the May 15th cut-off, when most waitlist movement traditionally starts rocking 'n' rolling.

Since the class is full as of today, we'll only be getting the trickle down spots at this stage. So for folks who are in the very top tier, there's a shot at nabbing a spot, but if you're below that, I think you ought to have a very solid Plan B.

I think i might be the winner of people who haven't heard ANY decision yet...interviewed mid FEB. and I was told monday that my file hadn't been reviewed yet, but that it should be reviewed by the end of the week.

You win...

Wow...
