Davis?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Although, you still have to factor in the DVM/PhD candidates who already interviewed and the fact that many people accepted might go elsewhere so who knows????

Guess we won't know for sure until the end of March. Good luck to all :luck:

a note of hope for numbers. apparently, current students have been offered positions in the vstp program (dvm/phd). in fact, the admission director told me that current students are much more competitive than new students, so we may not have to factor these candidates at all. 😎

As for people who turn down their acceptances, according to Davis' published statistics, only 8 out of 139 did so last year.
I hadn't noticed that. *No* waitlist movement at all? Do they even bother assembling a waitlist? Yikes.

They have a waitlist of 25 people. They expect about 7 people to turn them down which is why they overenroll by that many.

I am so bummed now : (
No interview at UCD (my in-state school) 🙁 and hardly a wait list to speak of. I thought I had a shot this time!

No interview at UCD (my in-state school)
So I'm not sure how to say this without causing general panic, but I just heard about *one* applicant who never received an interview invitation e-mail. She was bummed, thought she really had a shot, went to Davis as an undergrad and was in-state, has gotten interviews/acceptances elsewhere, etc. Then she got a phone call saying "why didn't you ever reply to our interview invitation e-mail?" 😱 Seems there was some kind of glitch. They did let her schedule an interview after that, but of course she kind of got last pick as far as available dates/times.

I'm not suggesting everyone who didn't get an interview run to the phone right now to check... After all, this doesn't seem to have been a widespread glitch (nobody else here has written in that it happened to them, anyway) and they did make a serious effort to contact her when they hadn't gotten a reply. But... Anyway... If you're *really* sure you had a good enough application to definitely qualify for an interview...

just to chime in about not receiving an invite via email.... my invite was sent to my spam folder... I only checked it because people on here were saying that they were getting their invites that day and I had noticed that my spam count had gone up by one.... If I hadnt checked it by chance, I would have never known 🙂

So definitely peruse your spam folder!!!

That's where I found my OSU interview invite by chance the sunday after Thanksgiving! I was practically having a heart attack! That was DEFINITELY NOT SPAM!!! Lol... I'm totally aware of that surprise.

after I'd read someone's post that their email was sent to their spam folder, and I asked them about this. They told me that everyone they invited to interview has responded. Meaning that if you haven't heard, you didn't get an interview.

🙁 Sorry to hear that. Guess it's better to know for sure, though.

Sorry to hear that, flokemahe 🙁 I did overhear Kim & Yasmin talking on Tuesday about how they still had a few calls to make to people who didn't respond to the interview invites, so at least they don't just let it go and really tried to get a hold of those who didn't make an appointment.

Maybe as people receive their acceptances to other schools, they'll cancel their Davis interview??? Just a thought, but good luck to you :luck:

So, I've still heard nothing at all from Davis.. I know that I'm out of the running because I didn't recieve an interview. However, it would be nice to have some kind of closure. Still no rejection email or snail mail.

Someone posted recently in the Rejections thread that they finally got a rejection email from Davis (don't know if they're in-state or out-of-state, but this was after the majority of out-of-state people seem to have gotten theirs), but I still don't have one... (I'm in-state).

So I was just wondering if anyone else who is in-state and did not get an interview has gotten a rejection yet?

Thanks 🙂

It was told that Davis would be sending the rest of their rejections via snail mail with an evaluation of how your app compared to last years incoming class and that these would be sent sometime around mid-March. So since it is the middle of the month and you haven't heard, you will probably get something around the end of the month.

I, too, am in-state and have heard nothing.

I'm in state, and I haven't heard either. I guess that can only mean one thing: we won't be paying $27,000 for in-state tuition!
I do think it's pretty incosiderate that they effectively let you know if you didn't get an interview, you're rejected, but they take their time sending out the official rejection letters. It's kind of a lousy way to find out you didn't get in : (

.... Are we there yet?
*bump*

7 to 12 days 😳 I'm going a little crazy here.

SAME HERE!! I just want an answer. I heard 4/1/07 we should hear something but I'm not 100% sure if that date is correct.

Sigh, that doesn't really help. lol. I think that's the date they are required to let us know by, bc we all are required to send in our decision by (I think) April 16th. I know we're all hoping for something a little sooner than April Fool's Day...

AdCom's met today and finalized the class. However, the email won't be sent out for another 6 days (email + admin issues). So, we're close to finding out, but still soooooooooo far!

Also, things that greatly aggravated one of the interviewers:
- crying during the interview over putting your dog to sleep
- saying you didn't do well on the GRE because it's just a 'standardized test'
- saying you want to be a vet because you love puppies
- saying you want to be a large animal vet even though all of your experience is small animal

Hopefully, all of us can say that we didn't do/say any of these! Good luck to all! :luck:

Ah, now I'm finally starting to get REALLY nervous. Thank goodness I didn't do any of the things you listed above! 😱

so sunday??

Either Sunday or Wednesday, depends on whether weekends are included. Seems silly to take so long after the decisions have been made so hopefully they'll come sooner.

The wait is BRUTAL!!:scared:

ugh! that is so far away, and i'm already stressed that they are going to accept me and i'll have to make the hardest decision of my life... i just want to get it over!!! blah!!!!!

You're kidding me... 😱 well, I didn't say anything about wanting to play with puppies all day.... but now I really am going over every sec of that interview. Here's hoping for mercy and that they send that email out soon!

😡 😡 😡
I guess since the class is finalized I can say how %$#@& much that pisses me off without fear of an adcom member reading this post and deciding to make sure I'm on the "reject" list... 😀

Six days worth of admin issues delaying notifications *after* decisions have been made! They have to know this is giving us ulcers... I'm kinda scared that this doesn't bode well for their concern for their enrolled students' mental well-being...

It sounds more like they're having some system issues as well as making sure that the email is worded perfectly. I agree with you, all I need is one word: "Accepted" or "Sorry".:scared:

And they don't even need to spell "accepted" correctly to please me...
😍 Davis! Come on, you can do it!

as well as making sure that the email is worded perfectly.
Somebody said the same thing about why the interview invitation e-mails were delayed... And I clearly remember there still being a misspelled word at the end of that message ("world-renown" instead of "world-renowned" - if you're gonna mess up a word, don't mess up while bragging!)

Anyway, after hearing that the invites were delayed to make sure the wording was all up to snuff, I was actually pretty disappointed to see that. Whereas if they'd sent out a really sloppy message *quickly* I wouldn't have been anything but grateful... 🙂

And actually they could take as long as they want with the formal accept/reject letter if they did like some other schools and called with acceptances on the day they were decided. I think that's a really nice touch. I guess they're not particularly worried about people turning down acceptances so there's maybe not so much pressure to make us feel good...

SAME HERE!! I think I have 3 new pimples just waiting to hear from Davis this week. Next week I'll have 3 more!:scared:

Is anyone else checking their e-mail like every five minutes hoping that the letters will come out sooner than expected?

I know...it's an obsession🙂

I just got an e-mail like 10 minutes ago, completely unexpectedly, so check your e-mail!

CONGRATULATIONS! I am pleased to inform you that you have been admitted to the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine, for the class beginning Fall 2007.

I hope it's not some server error that sent it to me. Yayyyy!!!!

I hope it's not some server error that sent it to me.
I got the same message, and I had the same thought - I did a double take at the "admitted" in the first line. I'm not admitted, I'm accepted, and I'll be admitted when I accept their offer... right?

Anyway, the message clearly goes on to say you need to accept their offer online, etc. etc., so I hope it's safe to assume it's not a mistake... 😱

Congratulations to both of you!!

SO now i'm checking ym email every two minutes and going crazy. Just out of curiosity, what letter does your last name start with? Maybe they're sending them out alphabetically 😀

 If it's not obvious by the username, my last name starts with G. So I'm kinda smack in the middle of the alphabet. I did, however, interview on like the third day. So maybe the stack of files is just chronological by interview date?

I'm going to pretend you didn't say that, cos i interviewed on the first day! It's been the longest month of my life 😀 At least my last name starts with L.

My mom just randomly , out of the blue, stuck her head through the door and said "I think you're gonna get into UC Davis". Maybe she's psychic!!

I'm going to pretend you didn't say that, cos i interviewed on the first day!
Damn! Sorry, I was trying to think of something else besides stupid random luck that would have put me early on the list. In my experience moms are pretty much always right, though, so it looks like you don't have anything to worry about. :luck:

Maybe UC Davis sends out their accpetances in waves? Or maybe this is me remaining hopeful 😉

I interviewed the 6th day and my last name begins with "C", but have not heard yay or nay yet. Yikes! I think this waiting is starting to have a physiological affect on me...

i didn't get anything either. i interviewed the second day and my last name starts with p... thinking davis has made my decision for me finally??

haha, thanks.

Who knows how the adcom is doing this. I'm getting a drink now to calm my nerves. At least it's 5pm here 😀

Nothing here yet either. And I was the second day, last name starts with M. When will we finally admit that there is no rhyme nor reason to the order? 😱 This is killing me...

They interviewed 200 people for 139 acceptances, right? So in general (not counting residence factors) if you interviewed your chances of being accepted are better than 50/50. I find it hard to believe that out of all of us on this thread that interviewed, only two were accepted - that's way less than half.

Unfortunately that makes it easier to believe that uvraysgirl and I are the victims of a cruel e-mail server mishap... 😱

kate_g and uvray.... don't doubt yourselves!! you are in!!! 👍 congrats - you deserve it! hopefully, the rest of us will hear something soon...

My last name also starts with G and I also interviewed the first day. Nothing here yet and I'm a basketcase!!!

They wouldn't let the rest of us wait through the weekend, would they???:scared:

Didn't they say last year that most ppl got The Email on a Mon... with a few getting it the Friday before?
I think I read that somewhere... on here.

I interviewed on the first day and my last name starts with H. The e-mail some on Friday and rest on Monday sounds like a plausible hypothesis, although a bit cruel to everyone waiting. I bet you'll all get your letters soon and be so overjoyed with your acceptance that you'll completely forget how stressful waiting was!

I just received the acceptance email! 😀

The past hour was pure torture! Good luck everyone!

Congratulations egghead! Now i'm definitely not leaving my computer!

If I have to wait the weekend I will literally go insane. Or maybe the stress and hypertension will kill me, and i'll be found hunched over my computer, finger still glued to the refresh button 😀

yeah, I don't think I'm leaving the computer either. lol
Congrats to everyone who's heard! (and good luck to the rest of us)

GAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! This is killing me! :scared:

GAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! This is killing me!
So I propose - once we're sure everyone has heard one way or the other, like maybe at orientation or something - that we present the admissions committee members with a transcript (with even our fake-names removed just in case) of this thread. I have to believe that they must just not realize what torture their notification whims are causing. They might not figure that the people in the "Monday" group would have contact with the people in the "Friday" group, for instance. Or that we'd have a mole in the admissions office sneaking out information like "decisions are made but you won't hear for a week." Because really, this is just nuts... 🙄
