DEA license during 1st or 2nd year?

Do most states give you a DEA number during your first year or do they usually wait until you pass Step 3/intern year?

I cannot speak for all states, but at least here you are required to have passed Step 3 and have the MD license (as opposed to the restricted MT license) before applying and paying for the DEA #.
