Deciding between Campbell and PCOM-GA? What should I look for?

I am deciding between PCOM-GA and Campbell. I am open minded as to what type of physician I'd like to become. Can anyone share their thoughts? What should I be looking for? Thanks.

Man, if you don't mind. Could you explain to me what that means? It's the same school. So do you have to go through separate interviews? I thought it was like in college where it's the same college but the college may have different campuses or something... I don't understand

CUSOM consistently has had great board scores and their match list is solid. I'm probably going to go there as well for those very reasons!

Campbell all day for me. PCOM-GA is not PCOM. I’m vehemently against mandatory attendance but judging from their comlex scores they get results. They’ve opened up way more residencies that any other new school. They’re in a lower COL area so that saves you money too. It really looks like they have it going on. It’s not even a question if you get the scholarship.

Nope. It is most definitely not "the same school." It's analagous to both AZCOM and CCOM being the same Midwestern organization. Completely different application, different interview, different location, different faculty, different opportunities..... you get the idea.

Thanks for clarifying... very interesting. But either one for schools will let you become a physician, yes?

Haha it's ok. It matters because not all medical schools are created equal. Even among DO schools there are certain schools that will give you significant advantages over others, the PCOM school in philly is one of those. The PCOM in GA is not.

An example: PCOM in philly has surgical residencies in almost all sub-specialties. Their ortho program has at least 3 PCOM students in it EVERY YEAR. So if you want to do a competitive specialty, having those in house programs you can network with for all of 3rd/4th year is huge. Not to mention the research that can be found. The PCOM GA students aren't viewed the same by those programs as the philly students.

So basically if someone is just looking to be a physician, any physician, then yeah it doesn't matter, but if you want a better opportunity to chase something more than that it can matter.

To answer OPs question I would go to Campbell hands down.

PCOM-GA also has mandatory attendance beginning last year. They changed it as their board scores were unfavorable (and, based on my interview experience there, they're aggressively recruiting students to change that).

Go Campbell.

When I applied a few years back they offered scholarships as long as you had X gpa and Y MCAT. This was back when they still hadn’t even graduated a class. I assumed they still did it and I apologize if they no longer offer this and my post was misleading.

When I look at a match list, what makes it impressive to the human eye? Besides everyone or almost everyone matching? I'm guessing the places they've matched...but then how do I know what places are good to match and not..? Thanks.

All you can really glean is a gross general idea of what programs like these students and maybe a general idea of what their board performance is. But it’s really tea leaves in the end.

If there’s an impressive match like derm at Hopkins I promise that coming from any DO school was a huge disadvantage and that student was just amazing.

Campbell also has mandatory attendance and dress code.

But to answer the OP, I would definitely attend Campbell over PCOM-GA. They have established a network of their own residency programs in NC, which is why they have 100% placement rates every year (3 years in row now starting with their inaugural class). Plus from their match list, I've also noticed that their grads match strongly all over the country.
