For those who may have taken a year's deferral before attending med school - how did you do it and how difficult was it?

I'm pretty sure at this point that I'll need to take a deferral on my acceptance due to business reasons (for my fiance). What is the procedure and how did you approach the situation with the admissions office?

Thanks!

It's probably easier to call and ask the admissions office what their policy is for deferring matriculation. Some schools have a deadline for deferment requests, and I would go further to say that the process may be more formal at certain schools. When I called last year to inquire about deferring for a year, the secretary at the admissions office told me to hold on, and the next thing I knew I was speaking to the Dean of Student Affairs. Luckily, I was prepared to present my case for a deferment, and the Dean approved it.

N.B. - Some schools might require that written request be submitted by a deadline. This was the case at my school but since I was accepted in mid - August, my request was made and approved under special circumstances.

However, I've heard that it is relatively easy to get a deferment. Suffice it to say that it was much easier than getting accepted...lol.
