So, what the deal with defferals and med school? Does it depend on the school, or do most allow you to defer for a year or two after an acceptance? Is a legitimate excuse required, like a long-term family emergency? Any help would be appreciated!

One year, for a good reason, at the discretion of the school

each school has its own deferrment policy and you need to contact the school you have gained an acceptance from to find out.

for the most part the time of deferrment is a year and they would usually like a good reason for your deferrment. a family emergency should be a good enough reason. however once again...contact your school and ask.
