This really took me by surprise. So I applied EDP to UNC (go ahead and say "I told you so" now). Here are my numbers:
GPA: 3.76
BCPM: 3.67
VR: 10
PS: 10
BS: 10
UNC has a cutoff for EDP of 3.5/30. Obviously, I just barely make the MCAT cutoff, but I make it nonetheless. Based on numbers alone, I'm not exactly a shoe-in, but I guess I didn't expect them to defer me without seeing my secondary, LORs, or interview.
So now, here I am on 8/27, having submitted AMCAS on 6/2, without a single secondary (including UNC's which I am now supposed to receive in a few weeks).
Well, I knew the risk going into this, but now I have to ask myself "Would I do it again?"
Maybe. If I thought that I at least had a shot at getting accepted early (which is what I did think), then yes. For me, the risk was worth the potential reward of being accepted by 10/1 and not having to apply to other schools. If I knew that I had no shot at getting in early (which I apparently didn't), then no. I could have applied regular admission to several schools, have some interviews in my pocket right now, and my chances of getting in to UNC would be no worse than they are right now.
