I spend time at a dental clinic as a dental assistant/observing, but I realize people also lump that into hours spent volunteering. I do help with outpatient logistics and administration, but it is not substantial enough to be considered "volunteering" in weight alone (in terms of hours spent).

What I'm getting at... Would assisting/observing in a dental clinic count as volunteer work?

No, you aren't suppose to double count. If you do, you are lying on your application.

It depends. If you aren't double counting the hours, yes, it could be volunteer work. I shadowed a GP last summer for about 90 hours. About 1/2 of those hours were for the Medicaid clinic they have where I was interacting with patients, helping with registration, etc. I plan to put those hours under volunteer work and the remaining hours under shadowing hours.
