I mailed back to a school to which I was accepted a first deposit and a form committing to paying the reminder of the deposit by mid-January. I have subsequently interviewed and was accepted at another school which I prefer. Is there anything that legally binds you to attend a particular school if you've made deposits to that school?

You can withdraw still. You most likely won't be refunded any of what you've already paid, but you'll still get to go to the school you prefer.

This happens all of the time, so don't sweat it.

you mean the $100 or so deposit that most schools have you put down? that's not binding at all, just holds a seat in the class for you. and some schools will even refund that $100 if you choose to withdraw from their school before May 15th. Albany refunds it, and i figure at least a few others do....but i'm sure there are schools that will just keep your deposit too, even if you withdraw.

oh oops.....i didn't read the part about the second deposit in January....in that case, you're not talking about the same deposit that i was talking about...
