So, I have been accepted to school and have to place a 5000 dollar deposit by April 1st! (one installment of 1500 and the other 3500 by aforementioned date). My savings has pretty much been exhausted by travel expenses going to 4 interviews! How is everyone paying their deposits?! I don't even think I could get a loan in this short amount of time. And this question is to those of us who aren't relying on our parents' finances. If you are lucky enough to rely on your parents' support, I hope you truly appreciate them and their help!

Get a credit card. If you don't have one, you should be able to get one by April 1st. If you have one and don't have $5000 line of credit, call them and explain your situation, you shouldn't have a problem. You can also provide your letter of acceptance if necessary. Then when the time comes, pay off your credit card with the loans you receive for dental school.

I think its check/ money order only👎

It is possible to do a cash advance on your credit card and deposit the money in your checking account and follow up with check/money order.

I know I'm a little off subject here, but that's a crazy amount of money to require of a student. It shows that the dental schools are WAY out of touch with reality and they should NEVER require a deposit that high. Do they not pay attention to how bad the economy is and how people are struggling right now? 5k? Are you kidding me? The school I'm going to only required us to pay a $100 deposit.

HA, apparently so. What school requires that much money? I know you do not want to give away your identity or anything (to the OP), but where is a deposit that much? WOW

I'm lucky, my deposit was only $700. Maybe you could ask your parents for help and pay them back when your loans come in. Or do you have any sort of tax refund coming? That might help.

There are reasons why dental schools make us deposit several thousands $. They just want to make sure you will attend their schools and it prevents people from holding too many acceptances. That's good for the dental schools and for applicants who have been waiting so long to get accepted (just an acceptance is enough). Please put yourself in their positions and you'll will feel their pain ! 😎
Remember: 1 person can only attend one dental school in his/her life. :meanie:

I understand, just saying this would be a lot easier if my loan money was accessible now! I'm a student, no parents.. I don't readily have $5000 available. I'm going to attend, and I'll be able to afford my tuition once loans are dispersed. But, as of now, I can't afford this, and so what's my other option- give up my spot bc I don't have thousands to put down at this moment? It's just not fair.

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend any one ! I understand your situation. I just talk about people who seems never want to give up other acceptances beside their chosen one. 😴
Keep them all if you have enough money to afford. Lolz. :meanie:

I based my school decision largely on the deposit amount. I had no other choice. Luckily I got accepted to a school with a reasonable deposit.

Exactly what I did for my LLU deposit. My grandmother fronted me the 1k and as soon as my money comes in when I start school, I will pay her back. Getting her to accept it will be another story LOL.

I agree with most of what you say, but different people have different circumstances. For example, I'm holding on to my LLU spot (paid the deposit) and I'm supposed to be hearing back from my state school this week on whether or not I got accepted there. If I get an acceptance letter, the first thing I will do is call LLU so I can free up a spot and make someone VERY happy! You see, most people have one school where they've paid a deposit, and are still hoping to hear from a school that's a better option (financially in my case). I can promise this, I am in no way holding a spot to keep someone else out of school or to frustrate someone. If my state school would hurry up, I could free that spot up, hopefully!
