Hi everyone,

I am having a hard time choosing which schools would be best for me to apply to and eliminating some of my options.

Residency: Pennsylvania
GPA: 3.54 from University of Virginia
I am taking the DAT on July 20th so I don't have my scores for that yet.
I have ~500 hours of shadowing experience and currently work as a dental assistant. In addition, I have participated in dental volunteering trips to Nicaragua, Honduras, and Panama. I am also participating in the MOM project in Virginia next month.

4 schools I know that I am applying to for sure:
1) Temple
2) Penn
3) VCU
4) University of Pittsburgh

Other options include:
UMD
Tufts
BU
UCONN
Columbia
Case Western
Rutgers
UNC
Medical University of South Carolina
University of Illinois at Chicago
Arizona School of Dentistry
Midwestern
USC
UCSF
University of Colorado
University of Utah
NOVA
University of Florida
University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Any input or feedback you can give me regarding these schools would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

Take off UCSF Florida and UNC already. You're GPA isn't high enough and you won't be able to apply early enough plus these schools are EXTREMELY competitive OOS. Good luck on the DAT!

Wahoowa! I just graduated from UVA. My application just got verified, so more or less we're in the same boat. I applied to VCU, UPenn, UPitt, Tufts, UMD, Rutgers, NYU, Columbia, Louisville, UConn, and Temple.

OOS Friendly Schools List from ADEA Guide

^ this is a pretty neat guide in terms of which schools are OOS friendly. It should help you out a lot. Other than that, I think your/our best shot is VCU, given that they take UVA students more than any others. Good luck on your DAT, and PM me if you need help!

Fellow wahoo here 🙂 fingers crossed that we all get into VCU!

But @dentaldiva27, I'm in a similar predicament. Taking my DAT July 31st and need to narrow down my list of schools. It's hard without a DAT score though, which is why I've only applied to VCU and Maryland for now and am waiting to see how I do in the DAT to add more schools. Anyhow good luck to you!
