It looks like the current site software is incomplete in supporting diacritical marks. I tried putting in trēs, with an accent grave (it's the accent mark that looks like a backslash), but, as you see, a macron is put in, in place. Now, were I writing in Hawaiian, the macron (called a kahakō, in Hawaiian) would be appropriate.
é, ê, ç, ï all seem to be supported. I don't write in German, so, I can't speak to that. The okina, which is the second Hawaiian diacritical, is easily supported by an apostrophe, although it, actually, looks like an inverted apostrophe.
So, this single one seems to be outstanding.
