Did anyone call in to find out Wayne State's decision today, or are you going to wait the 2-3 extra days for snail mail?

I called and am on the "alternate list."

Me too....Alt...sucks

can i ask who you guys interviewed with, i just interviewed this morning and wanted to know what you thought after the interview

I interviewed on 10/25 with Dr. Thomas in neurosurgery. He was very nice and it was very low stress. Talked mostly about some portions of my file and hobbies/ECs. I think that my status as an alternate is not necessarily a reflection of my interview; I think that it has more to do with a GPA-rough patch in my early undergrad career.

Hopefully there will be a LOT of WSU waitlist movement. I really like the clinical opportunities there.

I'm on the waitlist too, it sucks! I interviewed earlier though so I found out in Oct.
I interviewed with Dr. Hazlett, and there was also a student sitting in on the interview. It was very friendly and conversational, and I thought it went well, but apparently it didn't really go all that great. Oh well...

I have my interview at WSU on monday, any tips?

They are so picky! I don't know what they are looking for! I know many people who had stats that exceeded their averages who were rejected pre-secondary.

Ambrosia, the only thing I can think is that they assumed you would be accepted at U of M and so decided to waitlist you.

If I end up getting interviewed there, it will probably be a waitlist for me, too, as I got accepted to MSUCHM already, and don't have much research experience.

I thought med schools don't accept/waitlist/reject based on where you have interviewed/been accepted so far.
Well, not until May 15th anyway.

I had Dr. Thomas as well on 11/10. Nice guy. I called in yesterday and found out that I have been accepted!!!! I'm soo excited, it's nice to have a lil peace of mind that the MD's gonna happen after all. For those who are alternates, don't worry, good things come to those who wait!!! Best of Luck!

Hey Ambrosia,

I was in the exact same position, oddly enough. I interviewed w/Dr. Haz and there was a student there as well. I got the waitlisted too. Oh well, wasn't that impressed...

If my interview is on monday (11/22) will my call in date be in mid/late december?

That could make for an interesting christmas.

I think it is Dec 15th if I remember the sheet correctly--they give you a list of all of the "decision" dates on which you can call in after 1 pm EST to find out.

As I remember from applying last year, Wayne LOVES to waitlist people. It's their favorite thing to do. When I was on my tour, both of our tour guides had been waitlisted originally and accepted at the next date (or something like that). So don't worry too much, I'm pretty sure Wayne's list has plenty of movement.

🙂

they aren't supposed to ask you where else you've interviewed, been accepted, etc., so i'm not sure how they would even know. unless they are purely speculating based on your stats, this would not happen. i'm not sure why yposhelley rolled his/her eyes.

by the way, i interviewed with dr. alfonso, and i was fortunate enough to get an acceptance. i thought the interview went so-so, but who can tell when you have such a conversational interview.

anyway, good luck to everyone waitlisted! i'm sure there will be a lot of movement.

Do you guys have any tips for wayne state's interview. My interview date is on 12/3. Surprised i got an interview b/c I am out of state and 90% of their class is instate.

The thing about wayne is that if you interview early, it's harder to get in right away because they base much of their decision on stats, and a lot of the people they accept early tend to go the more prestigious schools. I sat on the waitlist until april after interviewing on nov 10 (this was three years ago). Wayne is a good school, though the administration stinks and the facilities are somewhat crappy. If you take a look at their previous match lists, they compare favorably with elite schools. As far as the interview goes, just cut out the bs and you should be fine.

My understanding is that they can see where you've been accepted if you've paid the deposit fee at that school. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

BTW- I was rolling my eyes, because, in my opinion, saying where else you have applied / been accepted often does have an impact on their decision. I'm sure there are plenty others who agree with me.

Just because they are not 'supposed' to ask you where else you have interviewed at/been accepted, does not mean thats the way it happens in the real world. I have been asked 'where else have you applied/interviewed at' in 4/5 medical school interviews I have experienced. This is why I threw in a sarcastic smiley.

sorry, i hope you didn't find my comment super rude. i didn't realize schools could see where you've been accepted so far if you've paid the fee... my bad.

and yeah, i know they still ask. but i always answer very vaguely so that they still do not know. in only one interview did the chick make me specifically give names of schools. if they know this stuff it will probably have an impact (even though it shouldn't!!), but you don't have to tell them.

I'm a first year at Wayne...Yes there is a ton of waitlist movement. I got accepted off the waitlist two weeks before class started, they called the day before I was going to move out of state. There were a couple of people accepted after me as well, even one during orientation week. I know that they do rank their waitlist but I don't know if there is a way for you to find out. I only found out after I had been talking to a couple of students that sit on an admissions board.

Not at all. I hope no one found my sarcastic smiley rude, either.

good news about the waitlist at wayne, guys! i was placed on the waitlist on Oct. 20th, which was the first date that they notified people. This weekend I recieved an acceptance letter, so apparently they do in fact re-review your file every time the committee meets and accept people from previous batches!

As Dec 15 nears, I am wondering-- if Wayne State can accept you at any of their review dates, then does that mean that you have a chance of being rejected every month too? Does my heart have to go into my throat each month? Or am I safe from rejection until May/June-ish?

I guess it could pretty much go either way.....

Good Luck :luck:

YOur profile says you were accepted to Wayne in Nov.

anyone know when wayne's decision dates are?

For January it is the 26th (a week from today). After that it goes Feb 23rd, March 23rd and April 27th.

Is anyone that had been waitlisted in previous rounds planning to call in tommorrow to see if they by chance had been pulled off the waitlist?

Oooh! I'm so excited to see a thread about Wayne State on here.

Anyone fairly certain they'll be joining Wayne's class of 2009? I interviewed at Case on 1/10 and am awaiting their decision, but don't think it'll be good because of a bad interview. Even if I were accepted, I don't think I could afford it. So I'm almost positive I'll be going to Wayne 🙂

Has anyone seen a match list for Wayne or knows where I could find one? I'm from Michigan, and every doctor I've talked to in the state speaks highly of Wayne, but I know it isn't ranked in the all-important USNews. I'd be interested in seeing how students fair in the match.

Good luck to all of you calling today!

I know that WSU is highly regarded for turning out fine clinicians, and they pride themselves on having good matches. Everyone here I hve talked to in the medical field (here in Chicago-- specifically UIC, Rush and Northwestern)have had nothing but good things to say about their residents from WSU SOM.

On another topic, if we were placed on the alternate list in a previous round, are we up for rejection every month too (in addition to acceptance and further inaction)?

I am tempted to call in just to find out if it will be worthwhile to send in my update/interest packet next week.

Hey Sara, I interviewed with you on 1/10 at Case (the only guy from michigan I think) I got my waitlist letter from them yesterday so you might get your letter soon as well.

Becuase almost noone gets off the Case waitlist I'm 95% sure I'll be Wayne 09'.

Good luck with all those calling in to Wayne.

Well it is past 1 pm in detroit, and I am tempted to call in to find out if I have been pulled off the waitlist. I may just wait to see if a letter arrives in the mail.

I also wonder if they expect those waitlisted before to call in or just the ones that have interviewed during the current cycle.

I called in at 12:55 (no one answered), I called in at 1pm got the machine, called in at 1:01 and got a busy signal, called in at 1:02 and got my acceptance 😀

I'd like to meet anyone else who will be attending Wayne St. next fall, toss me your email addy's.

Astudent,

Is this the first time you have called in or were you waitlisted in previous rounds??

Sigh...I just got waitlisted...has anyone been accepted off the waitlist yet this year? Also..any advice on if there is anything I can do to better my chances?

My interview was the very beginning of Jan so no, I was not waitlisted.

I was waitlisted too. I was preparing myself mentally to get on the waitlist, since it sounds like so many are waitlisted first. If anyone knows how being pulled off the waitlist works, please post it here!

Soleil, I just pm'd you.

a lot of my friends who are currently at wayne state med were first put on the waitlist and then got in later.....i think the movement is really fast...dont be discouraged at all.....i would suggest writing a letter of interest stating why you think wayne state would be a good school for you....focus on aspects of clinical training there and the diversity of patients that you would be in contact with...hope this helps

I was accepted there. I am on 3 waitlists I want to go to, so if any of them accept me, my spot will be opened 😉

I didn't call to see if I got off the alternate list, I'll wait until Monday to see whether or not to send in a letter of interest/update.

Seriously though, can we be rejected every month, or are we safe until May? Anyone know?

PB - I'm pretty sure that once you are on the waitlist you are there for good, but I will stop by admissions and see if I can't find out and post it for you guys.

i called in yesterday and was accepted to Wayne. my first acceptance so i'm pretty excited!

for those of you that were waitlisted, don't lose hope. i have a lot of friends and people i have met at the school that were accepted off the waitlist. i know it was pretty nerve wracking for some of them as they were accepted 1-2 weeks before classes started, but if you keep updating them and showing interest something good may come of it.

I have found that the more schools I look at, the more I like Wayne State. I will be sending in an interest/update package next week. Let's hope it works!!!

Has anyone been accepted off of the alternate's list yet?

Anyone NOT call in and get their letter yet?

I got my acceptance letter yesterday from Wayne that was mailed on Jan 27th, I live in Michigan so I'm sure if you applied you should be hearing something soon.
