Did anyone take DAT more than 3 times?

Hello! I just heard that some people take the DATs 3 times and more.

I'm curious as to how dental schools look at this. Does anyone know anything about this? I am never satisfied with my scores, but if taking it 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 times is allowed and people still accepted...why not? 😉

Someone mentioned a 3 times only rule or something a while back.

I took it once. 🙂

Pet Peeve= "I took my DAT's yesterday" I prefer the singular term. DAT
 
as of January a new rule will be implemented so that an applicant may only take the test 3 times...and if he/she would like to take it again then he/she must file an appeal to do so.

You can take the DAT as many times as you need to for a qualifying score. If you have to take it more than three times, you will need to send some proof that you are in school (or similar dental school progress) for the ADA to let you retake a fourth time. All they want to know is that you are actually working toward dental school.

hah. seriously. people dont call it MCATs. why call it DATs? but i guess people make this mistake because the DAT is comprised of 3 scores.
 
i think it's a canadian thing. I've only ever heard DATs or MCATs.

hmm. The people I know call it DATs and MCATs all the time.
 
It's real easy: An applicant takes the DAT.

"Write the DATs" sounds ******ed for two basic reasons:

1) Adding an 's' to the end of that acronym implies that you are taking several dental aptitude tests. You take one exam on testing day.

2)Aside from chicken-scratch calcuations in the QR section, never should an applicant write on the DAT itself for any logical reason. Paper DAT exams went out years ago, and even those didn't contain a writing section.

This all boils down to Canadians and their purposeful butchering of the English language. The solution is to give a monkey a red Sharpie in a Prometric DAT testing center for an afternoon. Then, he can "write his DATs" all he wants.

It's not a canadian thing. This isn't country specific.

Is it Scholastic Admissions Test or Scholastic Aptitude Test? I'm sure it is Scholastic Aptitude Test. 😉
 
I wouldn't know anything about the SAT. I took the ACT.

ADA calls it the Dental Admissions Test.😉 😉

I've never heard of anyone writing an exam, til i got on sdn and I didn't know what the hell they were talking about.


Plus-Canadian beer suuuuuucks. Unless you're into water flavored beer.

So why is there a PAT section in the DAT if there was only one test being taken? I think that you are basing your argument on the fact that you cannot take the tests (plural) at any other time than the same time as well as not retake any one test by itself.

P.S. I love Moosehead beer and the LaBatt Blue comercials. America Junior Sucks

So it's possible to take the DAT more than 3 times and still be accepted. 🙄 That's good to know, premedman. And may I ask when you took it, did you wait a certain amount of time between the 3rd and the 4th one? I don't know if I want to be a reapplicant. I'm stubborn and want to get specific interviews for this cycle. 😉

Good point. I would tell someone the same thing, but it was after I was actually put into certain circumstances and had to retake the exam twice, I realized that I'm probably not the only one whose seen tremendous trends of increased scores (my friend saw higher score increases when he took it a third time). So to think if I actually take it for the third, fourth, fifth, etc. time, how awesome would it be to actually get scores higher and higher each time. 🙄 Too bad it looks bad for schools to see that we had to take it more than once to get an outstanding score, and I'd say that it's quite unfair to others, but then that's up to admissions to decide, I guess. There's more to our applications than the grades and exam. Maybe being stubborn and persistent for something is worth it. 😎

you said it correctly in your first sentence. The PAT is a section of the DAT, just like all the other sections. The Dental Admissions Test is one test, composed of different sections.

If you have an interview this cycle and get accepted i think the smart thing to do is accept the offer and start dental school.. choosing to be a re applicant is very risky, considering how much competition for each seat is increasing

we all have our top choices, but even the strongest candidates that got a DAT score in the mid 20's would accept an offer to one of the schools that accept them, even if it werent their top choice..

I took the DAT twice- and it was 2 times too much!!!!

NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
i took it 36 times.

i heard the 37th is a charm.
 
I took my DAT 15 times and I finally improved my score to AA 15. I got 53 interviews and I am so excited 😀 👍 :laugh: :meanie: 😎 😉 🙂 🙄 :idea: 😍
 
Just showing how the DAT is comprised of many admissions tests. I dont think DATS is wrong at all.

why does it matter that our neighbors call it "writing" a test. it's their way of speaking. not like we speak like the brits, but we're speaking THEIR language. would you like it if they said our way of speaking is incorrect? languages evolve as do culture. leave them alone. it's like american idiots saying "drive safe." it's drive safeLY. plus it's definItely and rIdiculous. there was no such word as empathetic. it was empathic. but idiots made the same mistakes over and over again that they accepted empathetic as a word. before being cocky and pointing out that our foreign neighbors are speaking english incorrectly, take the speck out of our OWN eyes first.

the DAT is divided into a lot of sections. you have a bunch of different science tests, a math test, a reading test, and a perceptual ability test. All these test together are giving the title of Dental Admissions Test. so kappa,,, you're wrong.

How is a test different from a penny? If I take a roll of pennies (pl) you cannot not call them a roll of penny. They are the dental admissions tests. Plural, you said it yourself. So,,,,, you are wrong. I dont see how you can base your argument on the punctuation of an acronym being singular while you are illustrating that it is composed of many different tests, which would make it plural. Try a different argument.

as for the dat, you dont take different sections and call them tests. you now call it the Dental Admissions Test. a singular term.

just like last friday at Case. We had a comprehensive test. it was made up of anatomy, epi, DA, and other tests. We called it the comprehensive test. not the comprehensive tests. that would have ment there was more than one comprehensive test when there was not. see my point?

I dont see your point. If we call a group of pennies a dollar, what should we call a group of tests then......Test? I am simply arguing that it is not wrong to call them the DATs. You said yourself that the DAT was composed of many tests. On your test at case, was there different scores awarded for each area, or was there only one overall score given? One could argue that each question on a test was also a test, depending on the word usage. See my point. Are you already in dental school?
