Hello everyone,

I am hoping to get advice on my situation. I graduated from my undergrad 5 years ago in 2012 and about 6 years ago I had an incident occur in regards to academic dishonesty. My roommate and I worked together on a chemistry pre-lab assignment and we were reported to the academic integrity office. I think we received a 0 on that HW assignment but did not impact our grade in the class; we also had to enroll in an academic integrity seminar where we went over various ethical scenarios and it helped us realize that ignorance of a policy does not excuse you from the consequences. This incident is not marked on my transcript but I believe it is in my student record with the dean.

I graduated from undergrad in 2012 with around a 2.99 GPA and 2.8 science. (Horrible, I know). Last year, I enrolled in a post-bac program with a completely changed perspective and have never been so motivated in my life. I have taken 60 units in my post-bac and I have I raised my GPA to a 3.28 overall and 3.14 science; I received all straight As and one A-. I also took the DAT recently and received a 24AA.

Although the academic integrity issue isn't on my transcript, I still intend to disclose it when I fill out my AADSAS application and talk about what I learned. Are there any schools that would be willing to forgive my past? I feel like I have a double red flag, one is my mediocre undergrad GPA and the other is this incident.

Do I even stand a chance at acceptance at a dental school? Or is my dream pretty much over?

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Thank you for reading.

no idea, you are going to have to apply to find out (obviously disclose it on AADSAS)

I would apply very broadly as well

Considering that this incident occured 6 years ago, you will be fine. Many schools believe in second chances and forgiveness, especially with your post-bacc GPA and that monster DAT score.
Fully disclose in your AADSAS and apply early.
Be remorseful of your actions and do not come up with any excuses at your interviews.
People make mistakes and they learn from them.
Good luck!

Because of your strong DAT score, I think you have a pretty good shot! Just make sure to explain what you learned from your mistake, and I'm sure they won't hold it against you.

I got into school with an academic honesty violation that had arguably more severity than that (though still not notated on my transcript). I put it on my app and volunteered an explanation of it at my interviews. So long as you take full responsibility and show what you've learned and moved forward, this is not something to fret over. Especially considering your post-grad activities.

Thank you everyone for your positive and encouraging responses. I have beat myself over this for the past 6 years. Even though I have tried to redeem myself by working extremely hard to repair my GPA and by doing well on the DAT, I sometimes become very doubtful and worry about my chances due to the violation I received. I'll try to remain positive and hopefully I will be able to land some interviews this cycle.
