My sophomore year I took Org I and got a C because my professor wouldn't accept a medical excuse. I did all I could but the C stuck. Fortunately they won't let the professor teach anymore but have to keep her around due to tenure.

Now I am a senior (4th year of a 5 year plan) and I just finished my fall semester. I thought I was going to make a 4.0 this semester but somehow I bombed my physiology final so bad that I went from an A to a C. I missed the B by a fraction of a point (needed .1% to get a B). Again I did all I could but the C will stand.

I feel like a failure. I made a C so late in the game. Now I have Cell Bio and Genetics and the MCAT this spring and I fear that my GPA will be further fu*ked up. 🙁

I have lost confidence in myself and I am in a deep depression. I have a 3.70 GPA as of now. I feel like its all slipping downhill though.

Hey Amit, I'm here to put things into perspective. You have a 3.7 q.p.a. I'm gonna correlate that to a strong MCAT with good E.C.'s. Just because you got two C's doesn't been you blew the chance to gain admittance into Medical School. Sorry for giving you the generic answer, but have faith and hope my desi friend. Also, as I'm sure you know, apply to a lot of schools.

i can't believe i'm reading this. you're in "deep depression" because you got a C in school? relax! i don't mean to go all Dr. Phil on your ass, but its no big deal. a 3.7 is still remarkable. and if you can't take a little "failure" like a C, then you're going to have it rough in medical school.

my brother got 12 B's, 5 C's, and 2 D's in college and still got accepted to 6 schools. grades are NOT everything. they aren't even the icing on the cake. its all about YOU. and if you aren't the type of person to accept a few hard hits, then i suggest trying something else.

Dont worry too much man.. 3.7 is not bad at all. I know you feel like you are ****ed but you have to keep fighting untill the end. ha. Seriously though dont let this hold you back from trying your best in all your future classes. If you give it your all you should not have a problem getting into school.

OP-
Hang in there! Read around this forum...LOTS of people are asking questions with MUCH lower GPA's than you have. Check out the stats on all the schools...how many have an average for accepted students below 3.7? TWO C's? Blips on the screen! Get more good grades, get good LOR, EC, and MCAT scores - and you get in.
I hope the depression passes, and best of luck.

I know a 3.70 is a pretty decent GPA - but the thing is that is seems like its all slipping. I had a 3.75 and now its a 3.70 and then whats next? I feel like its very possible for me to get one or two more C's this semester because of the MCAT. Then not only will my GPA be trashed, I will also show a distinct negative progression.

If I was only complaining about making two C's and having a 3.70 then yeah - I would be a whiny little bitch.

I have good EC's, leadership, clinical exp. and research so im not worried about that.

If you're that worried about the MCAT cutting into your study time, consider putting it off a year. You're sounding very stressed about the upcoming semester, and you could very well talk yourself into a slide. Sometimes just giving yourself choices helps a lot. Is there another way you could talk yourself back up?

I am going to apply this summer so I can't really afford to put the MCAT off. If I do bad I will still have the option of doing it in August.

Im just going to have to suck it up and go balls to the wall this semester. I guess I will do all I can do and that is all I can do.😡

Quick, hide the razor blades everyone!

Hi Amit 1:
I understand you are not taking things lightly, I won't neither. Although 3.7 is a good gpa (not astounding), and yes..people with lower stats get in...but do you want to bet YOUR life on it? If you can, take the classes over again
but it seems you set on applying for 2004, so one advice, manage your time well, otherwise it is going to look even worse
Take the August MCAT, so you have time for your own finals

why not just take the MCAT in August, then? almost everyone i know took it then. what's the big problem? they wouldn't have it available in August if it wasn't okay, you know? i received my scores about 5 or 6 weeks afterwards, and my school applications were all complete by early October.

i had a very difficult semester last year, so i dropped the April MCAT and took the August. i don't see why it is viewed negatively. it was fantastic to study on the beach all summer.

and applying doesn't take all summer. at most, a week or two out of July and your AMCAS will be set.

Amit1-
I'm in a very similar situation to yours- I also have two C's on my transcript (both in Orgo, unfortunately- my school is on the trimester system and I ended up with 1 B and 2 C's in Orgo), I have a 3.75 overall GPA, and will be taking the MCAT this spring and applying to schools this summer. When I got the first C, I was completely freaked out- you could do a search on this site to see my own post from that time asking if I should take the class over.🙄 Initially, I planned to do just that, but as time went on I realized that my GPA is competitive enough overall and I have done well enough in my other sciences that, for me at least, taking the classes over would be a waste of time. I don't feel like I didn't understand the concepts in orgo- obviously I could have done better, but for a variety of reasons including poor planning on my part I didn't, and I don't really feel like I have anything to gain from taking the classes over now. Assuming I can do well enough on the MCAT, I don't think a couple of C's will be a big deal with my GPA, and I would say the same to you. Of course, I haven't applied yet, let alone been accepted, so my opinion may not be worth much. Clearly you need to decide what is best for you, and if you feel like you would benefit from taking the classes over or will not feel confident applying to med school without doing so then by all means re-enroll in the classes you got C's in. But, coming from someone who is in kind of the same boat as you and had to make this same decision, I would say focus on rocking the MCAT and maybe getting A's in some other upper-level sciences to show you can handle the work. That's what I'm doing anyway, it's a lot less stress and I feel like I have a much more balanced perspective on my "chances" are now then I did last year when I first got what I thought of then as the scarlet letter C's on my application . I'll let you know how it turns out in about a year!

I got three C's on my transcript and have been doing fine in the med school process.

don't sweat it, but also dont make a habit of getting C's

just do well on the MCATs and apply as early as possible

man dont worry about it.
i wish i had a 3.7..........
you are in a position alot of people wanna be in.
why be depressed? should make you want it even more.......

just let it flow on........

ummm...iffy premed I think a 3.7 is pretty good so you shouldn't be knocking him....And Mistress S I got two C's and a B+ (same trimester system) and I have gotten in...hang in there and don't get to caught up in the process there are a lot bigger and more important problems in the world....

🙂

best of luck,
SS

TeinVI - whats that honda thing mean? I was gonna get an integra Type R for my daily driver (I have a Trans Am drag/show car). The damn thing had no torque though - I guess Honda=Economy car, not fast car. I got something with a bigger engine and a supercharger instead 😀

Amit, don't listen to iffy premed (just read his handle and it'll explain his post), he probably just wants to scare you out of applying during the same cycle he does. Remember, alot of these people are your competition and will do anything to get accepted. With a 3.7 you are sitting pretty. So chill out, and enjoy your last semester.

that's the b16a engine found in 99-00 civic si, which is my ride (and will be for a very long time). under 5500 rpm, it's pretty slow cuz there's no torque, but above it, it kicks. (hence frankenstein)
most honda cars have no torque, high-end engines. but i wouldn't mind pimping in a type r.

I drove the Type R and it seems like nice handling piece but it only got like 29mpg and didn't make the kind of power that I like in a car. The 29mpg surprised the **** out of me since my 5.7L LS1 v8 gets 31mpg and makes 405hp and 405ft/lb of torque. For my daily driver I got a real sleeper - gonna win some money with it after I get done with some basic modifications and start putting out 12psi of boost.

The Type R was cool but its hard to modify the thing without looking like a rice-boy fast and the furious idiot. Type R sticker = +15HP 🙄 I met a guy with a base probe who thought that adding a big spoiler made his car faster - idiot!

that attack was just totally uncalled for. For your info, I got accepted in December already, so I am not competing in 2004 cycle. I know people with 3.7 (with no C in transcript) and not getting interviews to some places, where people with lower gpa have gotten them. Medschool admission is a random process. Don't bet your life on other people's luck. You want to be comfortable in the process, unless you want to be one of those people who will be waiting for that waiting list to roll by in August!
3.7 is a good gpa, you have to take in consideration that you will be competing with people with better gpa and from better schools. So why not be safe than sorry? If you adapt too optimistic point of view, then you are just arrogant.

I don't think Iffy was trying to get me down or anything. From what I gather he was saying that 3.7 was okay but try not to leave anything to chance.

All I want to do is go to my state school OU. The prospective students coordinator there is WAY optimistic and says things like "just nail your MCAT and you will be good to go". When you are pre-med there is no such thing as a certain thing, even though right now I am above the average GPA of the accepted student at OU I still have 1.5 years to go so a lot can happen.
