Heya,

Mods, didn't know where to put this.

Say you go to a school that requires a laptop, or that you need a laptop for school(undergraduate). You apply for financial aid, and you get 100% paid from financial aid(pell grant, fasfa, whatever) How do they expect you to buy a laptop if you cannot afford school, or housing? They make programs to obtain one free? I personally am not qualified for financial aid, but was just watching tv about poor citizens, and welfare, and I was thinking how do they expect that.

If a medical school requires you to buy a laptop they put that cost into your first year budget. Granted, in some instances, you may have to come up with the money upfront, but you will be re-imbursed when the financial aid check comes in. Loans will cover everything you need to pay for in medical school. Again, you may have to pay some of that up front, but you will be re-imbursed. How you get the upfront money is up to you. I know people that took out extra money in loans in undergrad in order to help pay for pre medschool expenses. Others got a job to pay for it. If it is really a dream of yours, then you will find a way to pay for it. It may not be easy, but you will find a way.

Some places even build a "computer fee" right into the first year tuition, and you buy it through the school.
At any rate a laptop computer is going to be a necessity, not a luxury at many schools. At the more high tech schools, various in class labs and tests will need to be done right on your computer.

Most schools have this added into the school budget. The University of Maryland, for example, actually gives all MSI students a laptop.

Thank you all very much for the reply's, and answer to my question. =) Exactly what I was wondering.. =)

I didn't have money for a laptop either. My school budgeted the money into the financial aide check. All I had to do was show proof of the money coming. I bought my computer through gateway so they did a quick 2 month loan through their finance company, I got my computer before school and when my check came I paid them in full. Easy. I was a single mom with 2 kids. You think I could buy a computer??? NOT. Check it out.
