Should I declare myself as a disadvantaged student?

I'm not sure if I am or not. I come from a low-income household. I have had financial aid every year of college and received the FAP thing.

I also come from a potentially 3rd world country and spent my early childhood there.

Is there any benefit to being considered disadvantaged?

When asked to explain my circumstance in AMCAS, what should I absolutely make sure to mention in that description essay?

Thanks

If your received fap, I think you can make an argument for being disadvantaged. Receiving financial aid in college doesn't really matter though.

Make sure to mention your family's income from age 0-18, and if there are any specific ways your low income disadvantaged you.

Thanks. Any other inputs?

I've asked this in another thread, but what does applying with disadvantaged status mean? (as opposed to explaining something in the background information section)

This is an old thread.

There's a box to apply disadvantaged. If you have some compelling reason that you can write in a concise way about how you were disadvantaged. Usually because you didn't have access to adequate health care -- you were in a medically underserved area -- or because growing up you were poor enough to be on WIC, Food Stamps (SNAP now), TANF, or the like.

You are definitely considered disadvantaged. If you can articulate what you just said, I doubt anyone will give you any guff about it.
