I noticed on Howard's admissions website, http://www.dentistry.howard.edu/admissions.htm, it says you must have a 17 across the board on each section of the DAT, yet on predents there are a few people who have some sections that are under a 17. So does this mean Howard is not as firm as it's web site says, or are the people on Predents not reporting their true scores?

Also, I just noticed it says statistics on the fall 2007 class had a 17 TS, so there had to have been people with under a 17 in some sections unless every person with a 17 TS had a 17 across the board on BIO, GCM, and OCM

predents.com uses the stats from the most recent ADEA publishing of dental school stats. The stats you see on predents.com are from the class entering in 2007 (at the latest). Howard could have easily upped their standards since that time.

no, I was referring to 2008 and when I talk about predents I mean the applicants stats, not the ADEA stats at the top of the page. I also don't think this is the first year they have stated the 17 as a minimum

easiest way to find out is by calling them and asking it.
if your scores have good overall but only one bad section, i am guessing that there is high chance that they will still consider the applicant

it also could be a case where the person indicated that they will retake but never did and they just let it through or something

but yeah again easiest way would be calling them and asking

people on predents notoriously misrepresent their stats. i don't know why, but they do. Just because Howard may require a 17 in all sections doesn't stop people from applying.

edit: you were looking at the stats from last year's cycle because there are no stats up yet for this year. Last year's class had stats from ADEA that were from 2006 at the latest, and odds are that either Howard changed their requirements since, or they are not as firm on that position.

So besides the official stats at the top of the page, predents.com applicant info isn't really all that useful? I mean whats the point if alot of it could be made up

Are those stats newer than the ones on predents or the same?

Unless it comes from the school's website, the source of info is from the 2008 ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools.

I wouldn't go to Howard if I were you. Many of the same problems that existed when I was there still happen, such as problems with grades and lack of facilities. Also, the administration is as corrupt as the Sorpanos.

Did you leave and are now attending another school? or did you graduate? Explain the corruption issue...really curious

I second that emotion.

I know ppl at Howard to have had DAT scores as low as 15 in certain areas and as high as 22 in others. I am not sure if they raise their statistics or not, I know may school have to have a "standard" and that's Howard's standard. However, I also know that every individual at Howard is looked as a whole not as a statistics. There are some dental schools that will look at your application see a 16 and immediately put you on the rejected pile. Howard looks at comm service, experience, GPA, DAT, interview, skills, your personality, personal statement, etc. If the only thing that may be hindering you might be a 15 DAT score, they may accept you given then fact that everything else is strong. Likewise, someone with a 20 DAT but everything else is weak might not have such a great chance. So, it goes based on each individual and what they have to offer as a whole and I know this is the case for many schools . . . there will always be exceptions to the rules.
