So I'm reapplying this cycle, but I'm concerned about my committee letter. Last cycle, I was rated as "competitive", but I was hoping for a higher rating. The circumstances that gave rise to that rating have changed (e.g., grades which improved the overall QPA were not included; my MCAT score wasn't available, I've gone from 1 to 6 publications, I'm PI for 2 studies, etc.), but it is past the deadline for them to re-evaluate me. My pre-health committee advisor indicated that I could provide additional LOR's which would be sent out with the committee letter, but I'm ambivalent (I could get another 5 or so letters, but that would bring me to a grand total of 14, and I think I may already be past the point of diminishing returns). On the one hand, the additional letters may be helpful, but on the other, they would need to be done quickly and may not really make a difference.

Thoughts? Strong arguments one way or the other?

If I was an ADCOM member I would not read 14 LORs. In fact, I wouldn't read all 9 of the ones you already have. Then again, I'm not an ADCOM member.

That many LORs just seems like overkill to me. I think you're right that with that many you're past the point where they'll add much strength to your application.
