Ha! I just thought it was odd that the SDN DMU 2007 roster only has 2 girls. Now how are you going to get good OMM training when you only have male OMM partners? 😉

That class is a little funky. I'm one of 4 guys in a class with 32 people, now you would think that with a ratio like that I'd love that class. But these people are stupiiiddd. They kind a remind me of the girls I used to date in the army.

Anyway, I started to weed my collection of books today. That was a little depressing. I dont know what I'm going to do when I have to really decide what to keep and what to toss.

Prad, how long were you in the Army?

I kept all of my science books, and even some of my humanities books. Mostly due to the fact that they always changed the book list or used newer editions the next semester, so I couldn't sell them back 😡

How long have I been in the Army? Funny story, I just got out. I was in the reserves untill Jan 23 2003. But I did about 8 months of Active duty in 1997. I went to India this winter break and I sumbitted my packet to transfer into the Inactive Reserve before I left in Dec. In the middle of Jan my whole unit got activated and got sent to Central Comad (Persian Gulf). 😱
It turns out that they processed my paper work back in Dec so I missed deploying. Can you say whew!!!!! That would have set me back with starting med shcool, and that would have really really sucked big fat @$$.

I havent been getting rid of science books, but rather my fun books. My novels: Tolstoy, Homer, Cushing....and so on.

My Rhoen, Netter, Robbihns, and Hollenshead are going with me.😎

The hope is that they wont activate me after I start med school 'cuz then I'll be more usefull to them if they wait till I finish.
But the real hope is that they quickly start and finish this Iraq war quickly. The sooner it starts and the sooner it ends the less chance there is that I'll get activated.

Just remember.... Ask Tina, Vickie, or Kim.... The DMU Matthew's Bookstore ladies.... for any recommendations regarding books. They have stats regarding which books were bought and kept. And they interact a lot with students so they hear our comments about books.... So don't buy them all. But most definitely buy all course packets....

I've booked my flight, hotel, and car rental! I'll be in Des Moines May16-18 with my dad. Is it ok for us to walk around on campus? Will most buildings be closed?

Campus will be open and it's absolutely fine to walk around campus.... Master's courses are offered in the summer so campus is still alive but not much students. It would be a great time to get acquainted with the campus.

JP, do they have the DMU MEDICINE t-shirts at the book store. I saw the t-shirts in one of the catalogues. Ever since I saw the t-shirt, I've wanted one.

Just noticed that May 16 is Friday... that's probably the only time you can walk around up to 5pm.... Saturday and Sunday and after 5pm during the week, you would need an ID to get into the academic center. The science education and medical center are both closed for student access.... but if you set somethin' up with admissions they may get you into the SEB (Science Education Building) and the Med ctr.... If you'd like to get into the academic building during the weekend, just let me know and I can get you in or simply wait by the door and if a student passes by explain your situation and I'm sure they'll let you through....

Ohhhh, by then construction will be very, very messy.... just a small reminder.

You sir have most certainly a liking to T-shirts... 😉

DMU always has those t-shirts available and even has a hat to go along with in.... it typically comes in a package. There are other items that are new..... so shop around.... They have specials during the summer where they have 30-40% off price....

Aww...my flight gets in at 4pm on that Friday. I guess I can try to go to the school right after I arrive. I'll be apartment hunting on Saturday, after I set up appointments with the places. Walking around campus should be good enough for my dad...and thanks for the warning about the construction! Well, I should be used to it because a lot of construction began right after I started college, and it's still going on!

I don't think y'all are nuts.... I think I'm nuts.... I have a trickle down effect with my t-shirts and the second to the last level is that the t-shirt gets demoted to workout t-shirt.... then once it's worn out it goes to the last level.... dirty wash rag.... 😉

We were just talkin' about that in admissions.... I guess midwestern have their preconceive notions of people from Berkeley....

Alas the time has come for me to start on my path to deep indebtedness. 🙄

I just got my Financial Aid Packet. Ok now I'm scared. JP you gotta get Lee to bring back those T-shirts I really want to point it when people b!tch about Doctors makeing too much. I'll be about $186,000 in the hole, and thats not counting intrest!!!!😱

But on to good news, My Prof backed down and I'm heading to Des Moines with my dad on the 4th of May.

Prad, have you looked at where you're going to stay when you go to Des Moines in May? You can tell me which apartments to avoid! How long are you staying there?

I'm staying untill Tuesday the 6th. I'm thinking about staying at Savory. It was full when I went for my interview, and it's only like 50 bucks. The best thing is my dad's picking up the tab for the trip. I can even order steak for dinner.😀

How much did you end up paying for your ticets? I ended up paying 366.

My whole trip (airfare, hotel, car) was almost $800 for my dad and me. He's picky about hotels ( 🙄 ) and I really don't mind where I stay for two nights, so we had to go for one in west Des Moines. But yeah, so he gets to pay for everything 😀

I just did the entrance exam. It was the same exact thing that I did for my college loans. Thank goodness we don't have to do it every year!

Oh my gosh, I just did my budget worksheet, and I'm over the limit! Must shave down the spending...Oh, I know what I might have done wrong. I calculated for 12 months instead of the 9.5 that their budget was calculated by. So I guess my parents will have to foot my bill for the 2.5 months that the aid isn't supposed to cover...

Hi Jane,

I'm still unsure really. I just want to have everything complet in-case I decide to attend. I received my financial aid packet today and it seems kinda' overwhelming. I don't really know where to begin. I have completed most of the FAFSA (except for tax info.). I am still debating the National Health Service Corps Scholarship as well....basically I'm driving myself crazy with decisons. I am usually good about making decisons... not so with this situation. I guess I'm afraid of making the wrong decisions.🙄

I know what you mean. Choosing a school is not something you want to do in a hurry.

I've been thinking about NHSC too, but I've decided to wait until next year or the year after that to apply, as I'm not sure that I want to go into primary care.

Is UNE and DMU your only choices, or are you waiting on something else?
