Typically, Admissions has an application to be a student interviewer after your first semester....

I did what you're comprehending to do by simply offering my services to give tours on campus and sitting with interviewees.... Because of this they've started a tradition of havin' at least one student with the candidates every interview session....

I just really wanted to help out.... so I suggest doin' what you were plannin' on doing.... Then apply to be an interviewer after first semester.... I'm sure the rest is history....

But for now, I think the only thing you can do is give tours, have lunch, or chitchat with candidates....

That would be fun. Hopefully I wont scare too many people away.

Knowing you, I'm sure you won't..... 😉

Also, if you want more things on your plate.... in the beginning of the year, the big clubs have first year reps to be one the board.... UAAO, ACOFP, IM, SOMA.... I'm not sure if SOSA (Surg) club has any first year rep, but I'm sure they do.... so keep an eye out during club day and speak the board members and ask how you can get yourself involved with the club.... That way, you can start filling out your CV as well as free dinner 🙂 Most of the meetings occur with food.... I guess I can speak for UAAO, because our board meetings happen in restaurants like Olive Garden, Macaroni and Grill, etc. 😀

I'll keep that in mind, Thanks. I've got yet another question for you. What kind of stehoscope do you have. My parents got me a Harvy 2head DLX.

Cardio III and Cardio II Lithmann.... I believe the required one is Cardio II because you can switch from Bell to diaphragm.... They'll watch you to switch between both when you're listening to the chest and lung....

Suggestion: Speak to Dr. Wattleworth when you get here and show her your stets and see if she approves.... She's the Associate Professor for Physical Diagnosis....

Mine has both bell and diaphram. Will she be in during the summer or do I have to wait untill school starts. Also I was looking at the cirriculm and I saw the bio chem PBL do you know much about it and what is your oppinion on it?

She's around during the summer....

Do the Biochem PBL.... it's an easy A and will introduce you to clinical thinking.... it may become a pain some time but trust me it's worth it.... Don't think twice and sign up.... They only take a few students.... Be one of those few.... You will not regret it.

What's up guys...That's pretty cool because I've already got the Littman Cardio II

My wife's aunt (who is an RN) hooked me up when she heard that I got into med school! My parents didn't even do anything like that. I was speechless nonetheless.

Me and the wifey are enjoying "playing" doctor...hehehe

There's no better way to practice 😉

Cool, do you think I should drop by Dr. Muller's office and express my intrest? I really learn by clinical correlations. For example did you know that desquamiation if the palms and soles are brought on TSS1. TSS1 is caused by excess cytokine releced by cells in response to infection. You also get acute feaver, rash and hypotension.

How did I learn this magficiant info you ask? I learned this from going over the Microcards I picked up while I was waiting for Darci's dad to come out of surgery.

It's amazing what you can learn when your trying to avoid thinking about seriouse issiues.

You're definitely on your way to kickin' tuss on COMLEX... 🙂 Keep up with those bug cards, I heard they were useful as long as you've used them throughout your studies....

Damn some guys have all the fun....

Oh sorry wait, I just got used to thinking like that. Now I'm one of the guys having the fun. Darci and I play Doctor too. The only bad part is we have to take turns🙁 😉 😛

You can talk to Dr. Mueller if you like but there's an application process to be a part of the PBL.... So, yet again, another selection process....

TSS brought on by super absorbent tampons...staph is able to hide out, grow, and produce toxins in the now NON Normal Flora environment...so girls, only use regular tampons!

They have a medical book store across the street from the hospital. They did'nt have anything else worth reading and I saw these cards they were pretty cool.
They were the display model. I asked the clerk if I could buy the display instead of the cards that were unopend, cuz the display set was already hole punched and strung together. The clerk said no, but then i saw the manger and she said yes. Better the clerk waste her time and puch out some new cards, rather then me waste mine doing it. Besides, I figured she gets paid to punch cards. 😀

LOL!!! there was one similar question on the boards about absorbent tampons.... 🙂

I bet you got a set of those cards too rick.

One of the only things I remember from Pathogenic Micro!

And just for info did you know that S. areouse which can cause TSS is a Gram+ coci that tests positvie for catalase and coagulase.

Ah...the beauty of flow charts, so easy to recall.

This apartment hunting thing is givin' me a HA....

Now Rick I have to tell you that when you stay over at my place you are not allowed to bring your stethoscope. I dont want you wakeing up in the middle of the night and getting confused about where you're at and try to play doctor with me.😀

It appears that almost all of the apartment complex in Columbus Ohio has some sort of Beach Volleyball set up as one of the amenities.... I guess they really like their Volleyball in Ohio....

I'm sorry about the HA. you can alway put a list of apt's in a box and draw one out with out looking. The place you draw is the place you go.

Hey you know what thats not a bad idea if I have to differentially diagnose. I'll put all the possible diagoses in a box close my eyes and pick one.

What do you guys think?

Can you find a pulse rectally?

Rick what do you think about that PBL biochem elective? I think I'll take a shot at trying to get into it.

Keep this up and you may be able to skip med school all together 🙂

I think that's pretty much how docs do it.... 😀

Well, Gotta go my wifey is finish with classes.... Later fellas

hopefully we'll both be in it...If I could survive the professor at UCF, then I can survive anyone. Over two-thirds of my biochem class(class size 150) had to take it over!

I do know that there is an INF. Rectal Artery but I dont know if you can feel it. When You get to DSM come see me, I'll see if I cant find it.😛

Later JP, say hi to your wife for me.

sounds like my g-chem part 2. I had to take that damn class over again. Do you know what a blow to my ego that was.

What's Up DOC. Since you decided to pop in on UNE's forum, I thought I would pop in on DMU's. I trust everything is going well for you. Personally, I am excited about moving and begining my endeavor to become the best physician there is. Let the games begin!

Best wishes to the entire class of 2007, wherever you may be.

JJ

not bad JMJ, I just wanted to see how you were

Lucky, where are you? I have'nt talked to you in a while.

I See you're still awake Prad.... I guess it's really only 11:somethin' at night on your end of the world.... 🙂

Just another tiny little note.... ACOFP club had a fundraising event at DMU and it was embroidering your name on your white coat with a DMU logo on the bottom of your name....

Although a great idea, it's turning out that not a lot of people like what it turned out to be....

The embroidery was too big and almost everyone's name is covered by the collar (the one's with short names may not have this problem but still complained that it was too big)....

Needless to say, I have yet to hear anyone be completely satisfied with the embroidery on their white coat..... Some second years are actually trying to take it out or buying a new white coat all together because they are a bit embarrass about having their names "hugely" displayed on their white coats....

The current president of ACOFP club was not very welcoming of suggestions and I guess this is what happens.... Trust me, I've had an experience with her which I'd rather not discuss.... All I can say is good luck to her board members....

So next time, ACOFP does another fundraising event that has something to do with embroidery..... you may want to think twice.

Just thought I'd share that to all of you before you regret it and have to buy a new white coat....

BTW, you get your white coats for free from the Alumni Association on your white coat ceremony.... so don't go out buying one....

Later newbies....

I thought I'd repost this seeing it may end up being lost within Class of 2007's ever growing thread postings!!!

And your still wake your self, is'nt it like 1:30 or something where your at?

Just checkin' email one final time.... 🙂 Before goin' to bed.... with that said, to bed, to bed I said... 🙂 Okay, I'm not a poet and I know it 😀

Hey Lina

Yup, it really sucks about the white coat not turning out to be the way everyone expected it to be.... Too bad, really....

With regards to COMLEX, we find out about COMLEX in about 6-8weeks.... They're not givin' us a straight answer....

Exams at DMU depends on the course.... typically they are on a Monday, Wednesday or a Friday.... More typically it's on a Friday for First year and for second year its more Mon/Wed....

When you get to Des Moines, I would suggest getting a copy of the old schedule at the office of registrar (4th Floor).... Otherwise, just sit tight and during your registration you will get a schedule for the entirety of the first semester....

Ssssoooo, You're almost finish ehhh!!! Two months will fly and next thing you know you'll fly to Des Moines to start med school.... 😀

Ohhh, definitely enjoy your summer....

where is everybody? Oops..my bad it's Saturday night
