DMU-COM Discussion Thread 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Right there with ya buddy. Maybe it'll be AZCOM, after all.

Hey Roberie, Sorry to hear that for you.

Do you know how the waitlist works? Is it prioritized in some way or is it first come, first serve?

I think they hold everybody in the same pool until the interview season has concluded, then rank people based on "relative competitiveness."

IIRC, the "Interview Decision email" stated something to that effect. And, from what I've gleaned from previous threads, that seems correct.

I got rejected just to balance out all these acceptances 😀

Lame. Sorry to hear that, man. Who needs 'em anyway, right?!

My interview was pretty rough as far as the questions they asked and their attitudes towards me, so I'm not surprised. What can ya do

hi guys. i've been complete since mid september. it seems like they've been really good about the turnaround for interview invites...does this mean i've been rejected? or are there people out there who have had to wait a month or so?

yea, my interviewers weren't the most friendly group of people i've ever met. one of them kept looking up at the ceiling and around the room, obviously not interested in anything that was coming out of my mouth.

It took me around 2 weeks to get an interview from DMU. Keep your head up.

Ha! I wonder if you had the same people I had? My interview was also rather abrasive. The whole time I kept thinking to myself, "They must instruct the interviewers to be this stone-faced and unfriendly, because there's no way three people this strange and asocial would find themselves all here by chance!" It was very odd and, as such, I never fell into the confident groove I'd felt at other interviews.

I'm in the airport getting ready to fly out there right now. Anyone staying at Heartland Inn tonight? I interview tomorrow. Good luck to anyone else that does too.

funny, sounds like mine! they came and got me 45 minutes before my scheduled interview time. not a big deal at all, just had me off guard from the start. couple that with my interview experience and you get one waitlisted dude.

I think it's fairly typical to have uneven interview groups, with regard to personalities and really the whole experience; it's unfair, if you think about it, that so much of your success as an applicant depends on something very subjective. However, experience WILL HELP regardless of if you're being interviewed by the toughest, meanest, spittin' group or the nicest, smiling interviewers. Keep practicing with your friends or whomever is available because it will help.

It sounds like a solid 80% of this thread is about the application timeline, so here's my experience thus far:

Primary Application submitted in early July (sorry, this timing is fuzzy)
Received Secondary - Aug 13
Sceondary Submitted - Aug 17
Invited to Interview - Aug 28
Interview - Oct 1
Letter of Acceptance - Oct 12

I'm not sure if my application was typical or atypical, but I had a 3.2 and a 32Q. I hope this is helpful. Good luck to all of you.

I did. Interviewed Oct 2nd. Accepted email on Oct 12th.

I interviewed around then to but I got waitlisted just recently whch really sucks since dmu seemed like a really good school. Anybody know the percentage of people that get off the waitlist

I am far from sure, but I think they wait-listed about 200 people last year and MAYBE a few get in. DMU is an awesome school and I have seen minimal claims of denying acceptance. HOWEVER, you never know, you might be the first pick of the wait-list!! Good Luck!

Sorry to hear about your interviews. I had a similar feeling last year, didn't get accepted, and REALLY wanted to go to DMU. Needless to say, I am trying again this year and I hope I don't leave crying again (that is if I get an interview!!)!

My application was released on Friday and I have received all of my secondaries except for DMU!! (my Top Choice!)
I know that it has only been a couple of days but how long does it usually take to receive the secondary?

Mine was released on Friday as well. Waiting for the secondary.

Wait about a week and then get worried. I think they send the secondary to everyone that meets their minimum requirements. Sometimes it just takes a few days to get the wheels turning and things moving. Also, they might not have downloaded y'alls files yet.

I was just invited for an interview! I'll be there on December 11. 😀

Don't be surprised if you run into a bunch of 1st years wanting to rip their hair out. You'll get a nice vibe of what a stressful schedule is like; that's our hell week 😀

congrats!

Just got an interview invite!!! My first one so far. I'm REALLY excited about DMU. Secondary received 9/28, file complete 10/7, interviewing 12/11 as well. 😀 Not so sure about experiencing Iowa in December, haha...

At least it'll give you a good idea of what to expect!

I'm looking forward to my interview in November! Anyone interviewing then too?

November 12th 🙂 I'm just having a really difficult time finding a flight to Des Moines for a reasonable amount. I could freaking fly to Europe for these prices!

MSUSpartan- I'm not sure about the cost of a rental car, but it is almost always MUCH cheaper to fly into Omaha or Kansas City than Des Moines. Omaha is about 2 hours away and Kansas City 2.5 hours or so.

What time did they notify you guys through email? Is that second monday after the date of the interview been accurate for your acceptances?

hiii,

did anyone interview on oct 8th or 9th and hear back yet? it's been two weeks. just wanted to check.

My interview went the same way and not surprisingly culminated with a rejection. Not terribly disappointed. Based on what I have read here, I really wanted to like the school but I just didn't get that vibe I had at my previous 2 interviews (accepted to both). Nice facilities, still, something just did not feel right about the place. I guess it worked out for the best.

YAY!!!! Just received an acceptance email!!!!! So exciting!!!!

Invited for an interview today via the Fas Track process. Scheduled for 10/29; can't believe they had that date open!

When were u interviewed?
I interviewed Oct 15th but still haven't heard anything. I guess i shouldn't be anxious since its only been a week and a half but would like to know if someone else received a reply already. Anyways, let me know what others on Oct 15th hear anything.

Thanks

I interviewed the 15th and haven't heard anything back yet either. Good luck to everyone waiting.

I received my acceptance email yesterday!! I'm sooo excited! Congrats to everyone who has been accepted and good luck to everyone else! DMU is an amazing school! Does anyone know DMU's school colors?

What day did you interview?

Still no word from anyone on the week of 11th? This is the third monday of the following week.

I have not heard anything either...but its only been a little more than a week, I interviewed 10/23

I just got off the phone with the admin office. All the people who interviewed on the 15/16 should hear tomorrow about decisions. Good luck to everyone.

Just got an invite! :xf: Trying to decide when to schedule.

Also, I was searching for the forum and saw the deposit is 1000 to hold your seat if you're accepted. Is it non-refundable? Thanks! 🙂

Yes, all the DO school deposits are non-refundable.

It is odd that MD schools only have 100 dollar deposits, and they are refundable.

Anyway, I thought the committee met yesterday evening, I would think we would hear something back early today. Just an guess...

millepora,

Touro University in Nevada actually refunds the entire $3,000 deposit except for, I believe, $100.

I am not sure about other DO schools. TUCOM-NV is the one I know for a fact that does this because I interviewed and was accepted there.

For those who interviewed and were accepted at DMU-COM, how many of you have already made the decision to attend DMU-COM in 2010?

I have already made up my mind to attend DMU-COM next fall and would love to get to know some people starting, like, right now. LOL!

Anyway, looking to hear back from some DMU-COMers (hopefully) and good luck to all those expecting news any second :luck: :xf:

DMU is an AMAZING school.

Hey! A fellow californian 🙂 I'm a little hung up on the location. Did you feel like it was a nice area? I'm just a little concerned because I do prefer being near a coast.. (east or west) and I guess the ability to see familiy/friends/bf. But the school sounds amazing, hopefully I have the option of going there.
