DMU-COM Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Not yet, but I will submit the deposit in November or early December. 😀

@iamdo: cGPA: 3.84 sGPA: 3.74 MCAT: 29Q
thanks for very quick response.
You must be feeling so much light/relexed after the acceptence and you dont have to spend money/time on many other interviews. thanks again.

I know the feeling! It felt like forever.

I got accepted too!!! 🙂

Got the email around 5pm this afternoon. Stats are 30/3.83 OOS, research, lots of work experience, but lack of patient interaction. Congrats to everyone else who got in, and I'm rooting for those who are waitlisted. Hang in there and good luck.

Awesome!! Do you plan to go to DMU or still exploring school choices? DMU is my first choice. Really cool! I have almost the same stats as you!

anyone else get accepted who interviewed on 9/16?!

I'll submit my deposit before the deadline...still waiitng on other schools and then I'll make my decision. But DMU was amazing and I'm extremely excited knowing I may be attending a great school!

My stats were 30Q, 3.70 cum, 3.85 sGPA....umm research, some volunteering, 80 hours shadowing (not a DO), and lots of patient care experience (work as an aide)....

Can really explain how good it feels knowing i'll be going somewhere next fall 🙂

you have great stat and great application. I am sure you will get at most of the places youapply.

congrats.
Sorry for the same old question: would you mind sharing some details of your stats?

Thanks

3.45 cGPA, 3.36 sGPA and 30M MCAT with tons of patient contact/shadowing and zero research

maybe...applying mainly MD but I had been to DMU before and really enjoyed it so I applied there as well.

I don't have them ranked, but the only other school I'm looking at is UW-Madison medical school - Have an interview October 15th (dropped my LECOM interview in october - saved myself 14 hours of driving and 200 dollars in gas lol). There is a very good chance I'll pick DMU and I'm really excited about that - it is such a great school.

I think a factor will be how much aid I could possibly get at DMU. I know they mentioned if you have 30+ MCAT and 3.6+ GPA you are automatically considered for a 1/4, 1/2, or full tuition scholarship. That could be a huge incentive.

Are you still planning on attending your Western interview doctorpurple?

And I wish I was as sure about what my number 1 choice for school is, but I am not at all. I loved DMU but I just had my interview at CCOM and their rotations and residency placements/match list are AMAZING! Not to mention close to home, sigh I just wish they weren't so old school....

Zeta congrats!! Yay we'll be doctors! Is DMU your first DO choice or Western?

Hmm, seriously, I don't know, haha. Western hasn't offered me an interview yet but I know my parents probably want me to stay in California. Plus Western-Pomona is only 35-40 min drive from my house. 🙂

got in today too! interviewed 9/20 🙂 good luck to everyone!

I heard about it too. I'm so mad at myself because my MCAT is only one point short..I had a 29 🙁

Congrats on the acceptances guys. I am a current second year and am glad to hear that our interviews are going well and people are liking DMU.

Got home from my UVM interviw today and BAM!, acceptance from DMU. So exciting. Good luck to all my friends that they may be as lucky!

Got the acceptance email this afternoon! Super-excited about becoming a physician.

Interviewed 9/16
Stats: OOS Cum GPA: 3.52 Sci GPA: 3.67 MCAT: 27R
Graduate Student, lots of research experience, 600+ hours community service, modest clinical experience.

Good luck everyone!

Just got an acceptance also! This school is one of my top choices so I'm very excited! 😀

Hi Autumnchild great to hear about CCOM. They are one of my top list too. However considering the tuition fees and the living expenses, DMU is a better choice for me. I live in Southern California so I will still be going to my western interview because it's just a short drive away. I'm also on my way to my interview in LECOM Erie and Brandenton. I'm leaving tomorrow. I already have the ticket so I might as well just go. Congrats again to everyone who got in! Today is a great day! The Admissions were probably busy the whole day sending out decisions.

When did they mention the scholarship?

Accepted (cgpa: 3.85, sci-gpa:~3.85, 33 mcat). Interviewed on Monday, Sept. 20th.

DMU is a great school but they require you to deposit 4 years of tution + living costs at the beginning of your program for international applicants, like myself. 🙁

I hadn't heard that..? that would be awesome!

When did you interview?

Btw, thats crazy that they require you to put down that amount of money before you start...

i got accepted today as well!!! interviewed 9/9. so excited, especially as a re-applicant. 😀

by the way, i interviewed at western last week and was not as impressed with them as with dmu.

Which campus did you interview at? 🙂

Awesome! Congrats my co-interviewee. Our 9/09 group did well! by the way, which western school did you get interviewed at? Is it in Pomona? At what aspects do you think DMU is better?

anyone know roughly how many spots are offered from the waitlist? i interviewed on the 17th and was waitlisted as well but I really liked DMU so I'd have to consider it if there is a reasonable shot of getting in off the waitlist

Unfortunately, I was watlisted as well and if I recall correctly, no spots were offered last year. It seems to be a poor prognosis to be waitlisted here.

Withdrew from my interview on Oct 18th today... Hope this interview goes to one of you guys that are waiting!!! 🙂

I got an email on Monday saying that my file is complete and that they will get back to me within 30 days. Can anyone tell me how long was it for everyone else between that email and the interview offer?

It varied quite a bit. Some people heard back almost immediately, while others took the entire 30 days.

Today = 31st day for me.

You also got that email on Monday?

I received an email on September 1st stating that they will contact me within 30 days regarding their decision. Today is the 31st day if I'm not mistaken, and still no news. I'm remaining optimistic to hear by the end of the day, but I have few doubts that it will likely come at least by next week. Today would be awesome though, because it would be my second invite of the day 😀

I have not heard of the 1/4, 1/2, or full tuition scholarship based upon MCAT scores and GPA. When are the students that will be receiving the scholarship be notified?

May 2011? It's my guess..

For those of you waiting on the 30 days thing, I just interviewed yesterday and they said they are short staffed and working on hiring another person. Therefore they are trying hard to hold true to their promises they make about deadlines but may be a little late. Don't stress. They're just a bit behind.

my group found out in 8 days. we interviewed 9/20, and I was told they would be late, but they were 6 days early! either way, they still tell you sooner than most other schools

thansk for sharing.

I'm interviewing Oct 11. Anyone else going to be there that day?

anxious! don't be 🙂 . it is an awesome interview. they have mostly the same people interview each time, and it's very conversational. I know it's hard to believe, but it's like talking to a cool professor during his office hours when he asks you about yourself and your interests, goals, hobbies, etc

I got an interview invite today! yay!!

I was sent the "file is complete" email on Sept. 1 to give those of you still waiting an idea!
