Interview Invite...decided to go with Monday 10/4...here's to hoping round 2 is successful!🙂

Just got the invite today! SOOO EXCITED!

Does anyone have any specific info regarding the interview? I was looking through the 09 thread but didn't really see any specifics.

What ?s do they tend to focus on during the interview?
Any oddball questions?
healthcare reform questions?

ANY input would be AWESOME!!! I hope to see some of you in a couple of months!

Just got the invite and it feels so swwwwwwweeeeetttttt. BTW I was complete 7/28 and have average stats also I am an OSS. I hope to see you guys there on 9/30.

Interview invite! I went with October 18th... All the other interviews conflicted with my existing ones. Wow, this is my third invite this week. Crazy crazy... I knew it was going to pick up, but this is just unreal!

Typical interview day...
Start off the morning with an intro about the school
Financial aid
They then kind of do a walk around to the sim and surgery labs
Meet the dean, he gives a little pep talk and info about acceptance stats(which are pretty good if you interview early and progressively get lower as the interview season goes along, so interviewing early is in everyone's best interest, especially @ DMU)
Lunch w/ students
Tour w/ students
Interviews
-With either 2 or 3 people which will include a professor, clinician, and maybe a student, depending on the day
After the interview you can leave,
My day was over before 3:00pm and and had a 7:00 flight so I had some time to explore Des Moines because I rented a car...I got lost for a little bit...then headed to the airport and was still 2 hours early

Overall the interview was pretty laid back, basic interview questions, why D.O., describe experiences, etc. etc. etc. Very low pressure, mine was with a professor and a doctor, no students

I was really impressed with DMU and if I get an outright acceptance this year, I probably will save my money and not interview anywhere else...maybe😉

Thank you for your input!!!!! You made me feel good/excited about my September 10th interview 😛

Got the invite today, I'll probably be picking the 18th.

Really? That's different than what the CIB says.

Do you still have until Dec 14th to pay?

Just started my second year, so they might have changed it. But I thought the class behind mine also had to do two payments of $500. I didn't interview until February so I don't know if DMU has a deadline in December.

Alright interview invite this is great.... Oct 8th

I would be more than happy to inform everyone about the interview (hopefully the night of, to help out the 9/3 guys!!!!). I am not sure of their post-interview acceptance rate..I do know that most DO schools typically have high acceptance rates, usually around 50% or more. However, I can't back up that with solid facts without doing some googleresearch, etc etc..

What part of CA are you from? I just moved to Iowa from Sacramento!

Really? So you live in Iowa now? I live in San Diego, CA. How's the weather there?

Yes, Iowa is my new home for the year! The weather is humid and warm right now with the occasional thundershower and or rain. I visited DMU two weeks ago when I moved here and Des Moines is a lot less humid, which is quite nice! Anywho, it's a pretty campus with a great program as you'll soon find out!

Thats crazy!! congrats! I also got 3 interviews in a week (that was last week) but no love this week. 🙁

So how many interview invites do you currently have? like 6?

Thank you so much for these info. Is DMU your first choice too?

Interesting story. I don't have a first choice.... I'm going to wait until interviews and acceptances until I rank schools by preference. Say I get an acceptance at X and Z and Y is an upcoming interview. I'll compare X and Z and chose my number one from there, then see how Y works out. That way I have a running list for my number 1!

Sounds good! Are you going to make a decision before the seating deposit date deadline? That's what I'm planning to do. However so far I really like DMU. If my interview goes well and I got accepted. I'll keep as my first choice.

This is why I'm hoping to get a few interviews around the date of my DMU one...although I really like DMU, I would like options. Once the deposite deadlines start creeping up though, well this plan often falls apart...or becomes really expensive to maintain...hence the only major problem with DO schools...if only their deadlines were like AMCAS

feedback for the 9/3 guys would be great. lol

Where is everybody staying in DSM? I know there's the student host program, but I think I'd rather do a hotel and am trying to figure out which one. Last year I stayed at the Airport holiday inn but apparently they're booked solid the day before my interview so I'm trying to figure out if anybody knows of a hotel with a shuttle. I don't think I want to rent a car this year and will probably just taxi it...

I'm staying with a student for my visit. There is no way i'd be able to afford anything more then the $400 flight. Plus, this way i can bounce questions off my host.

For folks who got interview invitations, did you guys get an email or phone call?

Same here. And they are really nice as well! This girl even offered to take me to/from the airport! 😛

Exactly...My biggest concern is from my LECOM-E interview on 8/27 since I'll hear back in two weeks then have 4 weeks to put down a $1.5x10^3 non-refundable deposit. So I'll judge LECOM-E and DMU then hope for more interviews in the meantime. I have the Touro-NY one, but they do not begin interviews until October..

Yeah I will have to with the impending expensive Erie invite.. I really don't like their policy. At least DMU plays fair by the AACOM standards.

Definitely, feel free to email me in the evening on 9/2 if I forgot or something, it's a two hour drive back to council bluffs/omaha so I should be home at 5ish! It's [email protected]

For anyone who received an invite after receiving the email saying you would hear something within 30 days, about how many days did it take for them to let you know one way or the other?

I ended up going with the Holiday Inn Downtown...got it for $65 a night off of priceline and it has a free airport shuttle and a local shuttle I can take the morning of the interview. Airfare wasn't that bad, since I have a Monday interview I decided to fly in on Saturday because it was cheaper to book 2 nights at the hotel versus fly in on Sunday, so I get a little weekend trip to Des Moines... I guess I'll get to experience it first hand. haha

So I just submitted my primary application, I feel behind somewhat. I guess the truth is I'm more in the middle of the hunt, but I was hoping to get my app out sooner than this. Guessing 4 weeks is the soonest I'll hear back from AACOMAS, so first chance at an interview would be mid to late OCT? Those of you who have interview invites, do you know how quickly they are filling up?

I hate waiting.🙁

This is starting the busiest part of the season at AACOMAS. Last year I submitted at the end of August and didn't get verified until the first week of October...so if I were you, I would definitely research the secondaries now and get all of the questions answered so you can submit right away. Look for at least a few weeks to a few months to hear back for interviews after you submit your secondaries and LOR's. You still have a good chance of hearing back, but there are a lot more people in the system to get interviews at that time, but schools interview until April or so and they need people to fill those interviews. But you have a higher chance of getting a waitlist spot or sadly a rejection because there are fewer spots open. But don't lose hope, DO school admissions are a little bit more spread out than MD admissions, so applying late is not necessarily equal to doom. I got one acceptance at NYCOM and two waitlists. But just expect to wait for verification because AACOMAS doesn't seem to handle the increase in Apps to well.

Is anyone having issues with contacting student hosts? I've already e-mailed two students two weeks ago and haven't heard back from them. Should I call instead?

Yeah same here, but I actually called 3 of them yesterday but it went to voice mail. I dunno maybe they're all busy studying for a upcoming exam.

I just emailed all the girls (about 10?) who were on that list and five of them emailed me back.

5th interview invite... I kind of hope I don't have to go to them all and will get word from my first few interviews before I buy my plane tickets! I never really thought about how expensive it would end up being. At least $500 per interview per school... Im up to more than $2500 if I buy all of the plane tickets and hotels right now. Waiting to book my stuff for this interview until a few weeks before...

Congrats on your 3 invites!!! 🙂 Or more than 3 is it now?

Thanks for the encouragement Will.

What other schools did everyone apply to?

Noooo problem!! Glad to help. Anyone feel free to email me or facebook, whatever works

Definitely will ask you for the low-down, lol. Also, I think I remember you from an interview I went to last year haha.

any can please share their MCAt score who have been invited for interview here?
thanks

4 more days until my 30 days is up. No love from the dee em yoo.

It's been over 30 days for me and I haven't heard anything, hoping this isn't a bad sign. I guess I'll give it a couple more days and then call.

less then 24 hours till my interview day starts. oddly pumped and stressed. lol

For those who have DMU interview on 2nd and 3rd, Good luck!!!!!!! Any feedback about your interview experiences would be appreciated!

:luck::luck::luck::luck:
