DMU-COM Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I agree with everyone else that the interview was very laidback. Not very many tough questions. They didn't ask me about the state of healthcare or any ethics questions. Can't wait to hear back!

great. thanks for sharing

quick question for those that have recieved interview invites recently, how long did it take from the point that your application was complete till the time you were contacted with an interview invite (or any news for that matter)? they say 30 days on the email, but I was wondering if its typically shorter than that or not? thank you

Mine was exactly 30 days.

10 days for me..

Waitlisted. So everyone that got accepted should withdraw.

Just kidding, congrats to the acceptees.

Accepted!!! Will be withdrawing my LECOM-E LDP acceptance, so good luck to those interviewing for that! Following my self installed strategy to minimize lost deposits, I am still undecided on my top choice, but DMU is the strongest contender as of yet.

!

Primary and Secondary verified in 2 weeks, now only if DMU will give me an interview invite just as quickly...

Where else have you interviewed Mike?

I got an interview exactly ONE day after submitting my secondary. last week. serious. it was weird, I haven't gotten any other interviews yet

I'm seriously so excited about this school I can't sleep!!!!

As a future doctor I recommend at least a few full nights of sleep before beginning medical school 🙂

ARE YOU SERIOUS???? that would make me sooooooo happy??? what day of the week was that?

yea. I couldn't be happier about it. it was the end of the week. to be that quick is very rare. I am expecting a wait of about a month to hear back from most places. everyone seems to be agreeing

Ok, so this might sound stupid, but what building do I go to for my interview? I have an interview this friday and I dont want to go to the wrong building. haha. Thanks!

You need to go to the building on grand street that is in the middle of campus. The far east side is the clinic, just west of that was the gym, and just west of that is the building you are looking for. If you drive and park on the backside of campus you will need to go up one floor but if you are dropped off out front you will be on the correct floor.

The directions should be in your interview packet. But if you get lost ANYBODY will be willing to point you in the right direction.

Good luck!

P.S. I dare you to say, "Because Onetyme is going here.", when they ask you why you want to go to DMU.

http://maps.google.com/

enter in these coordinates:
41.583755,-93.662283

it is targeted on the entrance. There's a nice circular plaza thing you pass through, very likely to be a lot of steam vents. Enter the building, go up stairs directly in front of you (step 2). If you're lucky, there will be a sign stating "Looking for your interview?". Once up stairs, proceed left and it will be on your left. Look for a bunch of nervous people in suits. If for some odd reason you are terribly lost, find the bookstore, exit bookstore, and turn right then left when possible, if you are feeling adventurous, turn left early and proceed to step 2 of the directions. When you're there you will understand the joke.

If you are driving to the campus, watch out! there are two entrances but all roads lead to Rome. Furthermore, there is a serious dip in the road to the left of where google lists DMU Clinic.

Best of luck 🙂

For those of you who stayed at the heartland inn for their interview, did you take the free shuttle to the interview? I am staying there for my interview this coming monday, and want to utilize the free shuttle to the interview, but have this awful fear of being late. Can anyone speak from their experience?

I'll be staying at the heartland for my interview next Monday too. I was considering taking the shuttle since they would know the way and I wouldn't have to worry about getting lost, but am also considering just driving myself since I'll have my vehicle anyway.

Thank you! and onetyme...I'll keep that in mind. haha

Day 30 for me and haven't heard anything. Anyone else in the same situation?

It took 33 days for me to get an interview invite so I wouldn't worry too much. I'd say give it a week and if you don't hear anything then it wouldn't hurt to call.

I don't think this has been answered in this thread. Did anybody put additional information in the "anything else you'd like us to know?" (optional) ? I'm not really sure if it's necessary to add anything additional here.

I absolutely did! you should always have something to put there. Are you working on any journal submissions, any research, did you have a job during college, any grade trends that you want to make noticed, brief bad grade explanation/what you learned from it, etc. Anything that can help you, I would always put it in. It shows effort, also. Let's them know you care about the school

I put that I had some shadowing planned in the next couple weeks with a family practice DO.

Thanks for the above replies. Just wasn't too sure how extensive to make the response. Did anyone put anything regarding some aspect of the school they liked? It seems like the question is more geared to your application rather than something about the school. I wanted to explain my jump in MCAT score from 20 to 27 but I don't really think it's that necessary.

it says: anything else you'd like us to know. if you want them to know you are really interested in DMU particularly, then put it. if you would like them to know about your MCAT boost (congrats btw, 7points!), then let them know that, too. up to you

Couple of questions for those who already interviewed..

1. Panel or one on one interview? Closed or open file?

2. Is the info on the sdn interview database pretty accurate as to what questions will be asked?

3. What was served for lunch? 😎

Reading back a page or two would reveal the answers to your questions.

But because I'm not an angry person, I'll happily respond to your questions! 😎

1. Panel, open file. literally open, the professor was flipping through it while asking questions.

2. They will ask you the general ones: Why osteopathy, why DMU, why medicine, healthcare, etc. Know yourself and your application.

3. You receive a voucher for their 'cafeteria' downstairs. IT IS AMAZING AND HAS SO MANY DELICIOUS FOODS. (They were even vegetarian friendly!) You can literally choose anything you want (including red bull ) and give the cashier the ticket. IT'S FREE AND AMAZING!

Thanks, Bro. Much appreciated.

Ahh! Interview on Monday (4 days!). First of the season for me...nervous and excited at the same time. Hope I get in:xf::xf:

Day 30 for me and haven't heard anything. Anyone else in the same situation?

i'm in the same shoes as you are. i was completed on aug 16th and haven't heard a word from them. i hope it'll be good news!!!

Had my interview today...

Very impressed with DMU...the faculty, staff, and students are extremely friendly and not intimidating at all. The campus is small and has excellent facilities, and very technologically advanced.

Interview was very relaxed....I didn't get generic questions, not even why medicine, why do, why dmu...nothing like that.

Just asked me questions about my application, what book im reading, and healthcare..etc. Health care question was very open ended...

DMU was great

sorry to hear that, sinfest. did they email you? how long did you get know after you were completed?

It's okay, but thanks. Yep, via email.

I've been complete since 08/20.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh I still can't believe I was accepted here...

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh I still can't believe I was accepted here...

It's hitting you now isn't it? I LOVED this place. I think the only school that compete (in my eyes) is U of Washington. I'm pretty much turning down every other interview.

DMU!!!!!

Just received the rejection email.. (was expecting it to be honest.) I must say it is the best one I have ever received. lol. I know it's a generic letter they send to everyone, but it sounds like they put time in writing it. All well, not the school for me I guess. Gratz to those with acceptances.

has anyone who interviewed on Sept 9 heard back yet? i know it is still soon but i hate the waiting game. although this school seems to be very on top of things compared to some of the others i have dealt with so i am grateful for that.
i have four interviews coming up in the next three weeks and would love to have an acceptance going into those..

No I haven't heard anything back either. Don't worry though, they said we'd hear within two weeks of Monday September 13th (so don't freak out until Monday the 27th). Also, some professor or student mentioned they accept ~70% of people who make it to the interview stage. Odds are good! Try and relax.

Nope I was interviewed 9/09 also and haven't heard anything so far. I hate the waiting game also and it's making really paranoid and nervous
