Do you mind my asking, is it possible your interview didn't go very well?

I don't mean to be rude, but with your stats, I am very surprised you weren't accepted outright.

What do you think?

I actually went home feeling like my interview went very well. It was very conversational, they were easy to talk to, I felt like I expressed my self well, including on the difficult questions they asked me.

My weakness in their eyes might be that I have very little direct experience with DOs?

Also, I only had 2 interviewers, a PHD and a clinician. I don't know if the lack of student interviewer in my group had an effect?

Wow, this scares me. I have a 3.7/28Q and I thought my interview went extremely well too. I had all three interviewers and I have considerable DO experience. Anyway, best of luck to you with other schools (or possibly this one down the road).

I wouldn't get overly worked up about my result. There are plenty of people posting on this thread with very similar stats to yours getting accepted. I could have misread my interviewers' response to me or emphasized the 'wrong' things easily.

I've still got hope. They've got a large class size to fill.

Hey everyone! My work is shipping me to Des Moines from 11/14 to 11/19 and putting me up in a hotel downtown. I'll be busy from 8-4ish everyday, but I'll be free (and bored) in the evenings. I have a MINI car so if anyone wants to meet up for evening activities (food, de-stress, etc etc) before or after their interview I think it'd be really fun!! PS I don't wish to hang with hyper-neurotic pre-meds, but I'd be happy to field genuine questions (accepted at DMU and other skewlz)

Hahahaha, I wish I could go with you and check out the town (coz DMU is probably where I'm going) 😛

But I got school 🙁

Anyone interviewing this Thursday, November 4th?! I will be! Got moved up from my Dec. 6th original date!

Yes! This spring break I'm taking an additional week off (skipping) to take a road trip out west to Seattle with a high school friend.

I'll be giving up my seat soon, hopefully one of you gets it! Good luck!

Went well! Campus is beautiful. I am in Ames, Iowa and I have been in Des Moines many times. Interview is laid back but don't kid yourself, there are some tough questions but its very open with all the people in the group. I interviewed with 4 people (technically they put it as 3 people and 1 observer, but the observer even asked questions). This is my #1 school so :xf:

Anyone here that was there today with me?

Gotta settle in for the long wait.

AlmadeDr, I'm sorry to hear about that. How did you find out about your waitlist status? Did they send you email or snail mail?

I got an e-mail. Title was "DMU Interview Decision"

I'm 95% sure this is the school that I'm going. The more I research about this school and with the interviews I went for other school, the more I like this school. I'm glad that I've done my research to have an informed decision. I'm sending my $500 deposit soon. Anyone sent theirs already? Or planning soon?

Did you finally decide between DMU vs. KCUMB? My friend went to KCUMB and he likes it there. I also heard a lot of current DMU students who loved it there. Both good schools. Tough decision

same deal, here. I wound up withdrawing from the rest of my interviews. DMU was great.

Has anyone from the 10/21 interview heard back from DMU? How long does it take for DMU to send out acceptances / waitlists?

I was there on 10/28 as well - they told us it was going to be closer to two weeks from this past monday (11/1). So I guess 11/15 at the latest. Hoping for some good news!

It's now DMU vs KCUMB vs TUCOM-CA

Oh the decisions..within the next two weeks.

My interviewer emailed me to congratulate me and I was able to speak with a fourth year who had nothing but great things to say. He said clinical rotations were not a problem and he really liked the electives for fourth year. I'm continuously impressed with this school!

Just withdrew from an interview on 11/15 if anyone wants to try and grab it. Hope someone gets it

I just spoke with enrollment this morning, and they said the process was running a little behind. I interviewed on 10/22, so I was a little worried when the two-week mark went by with no email. The person I talked with seemed certain that my results would come within the week (via email). :xf:

hurraayyyyy... i just got the accepted email!!! So excited for this one😍. I interviewed on 10/22 btw.

Alternate list, so disappointed, this was my top choice.

3.7 sGPA, 29N, DMU D.O. almuni wrote a letter for me, I thought interview went well, and still not accepted. I thought I had a really good shot. Is it okay to ask why I was put on waitlist? And how's the movement on the list?

To those who got accepted, may I ask for stats?

3.84 GPA (cumulative and science), 30 MCAT, decent letters, some volunteering, limited patient exposure, lots of work experience (had to pay for college). Sorry to hear that.

If I had to guess, there will be some movement on the wait list. I say this because I'm waiting to hear back from my state school and if I get accepted there I will probably go there simply because it is much cheaper (the quality of schools is the same) and closer to home. I feel other people are in the same situation as me; our withdrawal will open up spots. Hang in there and good luck.

I'm just a little puzzled, I know GPA/MCAT isn't everything but it wasn't like I didn't have any extra activities- hospital volunteer for 2 years, tutoring, shadowing, the standard; it must have been my interview, they asked about microarrays which I knew what it was but I guessed I failed to articulate it well enough. Man, I was hoping this acceptance would have been my birthday present, now it'll be a sad week, not to mention my parents are gonna freak out.

The only other place I interviewed was my state but I probably won't get in there so I was really banking on DMU. That's why its so devastating.

they asked you about microarrays!?!?! that's rough. did it have anything to do with any research you were involved in, or a class you brought up? I'm in the same situation as biochem, hoping to get a scholarship from DMU so I can go there. I would call them tomorrow. I read that in past years there wasn't too much movement, but with your stats I would think you have a good chance of getting off the list. also I would write them a letter telling them that DMU is your first choice. they seem receptive to letters, I wrote them one asking about scholarships which they seemed happy to add to my file

accepted: 3.90 cgpa, 3.9 sci gpa, 33q mcat, 3yrs of OR orderly work, medium volunteer, medium internships, medium DO exposure

I mentioned it about my research on my primary; one of the interviewers asked me to explain it to the other interviewer who was an M.D. from India and didn't know what it was. Unexpected question but not a difficult one, maybe I explained it poorly.

Is the waitlist ranked? I heard they waitlist like 200 people (correct me), why would they put that many people on if clearly its not necessary?

Speaking from experience, and from what I've heard is pretty much the norm at DMU...don't bank on much movement on the waitlist. Take any additional interviews you may receive and if you get an acceptance...don't hold out for DMU. If you should happen to get some good news from Des Moines in the summer, then at that point you can make some decisions...but for now I would encourage an intent/interest letter, send periodic updates, and then move on for the time being. Come March/April/May write another letter if you are still interested. DMU doesn't even look at the alternate list until the end of the cycle, nor is it ranked since they seem to only blow the dust off of it every few years so they don't take the effort to rank it anymore...so should there be an opening...having your name fresh in their head would probably be semi-advantageous, but I wouldn't start bugging them hardcore until the end of the interview season...don't lose hope though...if you got an interview at DMU you will probably get a few more DO interviews since DMU is considered towards the top of the osteopathic schools.

Just withdrew myself from my interview on the 19th... if anyone wants to swoop

Emailed DMU two days ago asking about scholarship activity. I was told they haven't met yet and "may meet in the next month or so." Doesn't sound like we'll know anything until 2011. Just an FYI.

thanks for the heads up. I looked in last years thread a while ago and I think they found out in december. hopefully we will, too

Does anyone know information on sending recent recommendation letters to DMU? I know on the application they ask you to limit letters of rec to 2 and not send extra, but I have two good ones from professionals and torn on whether to send them to update my file before my interview (November 18th). Anyone have any advice on this?

I'm not sure about updates... but i sent in 3 letters with my application, and got an interview. Perhaps they aren't that strict. You can always email/call the admission office and ask.
