DMU self-proclaimed super-geniuses of the third row

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was just on Kaiser's webpage wasting so time and I found the career openings. There was a job in CO for Orthopedics-Foot and ankle but the thing is that I have been on this page before and have seen foot and ankle ortho jobs and also pod jobs. So, I am interested if a pod applied for the foot and ankle ortho position would they give them a look? Or are they only wanting an ortho with fellowship in ankle surgery?

Dr_Feelgood said:
They worst they can say is no.

No I know but my question is: Are they looking for an orthopedist because they do not have the confidence in the pod or are they just not informed? Prly a little of both huh.

A little of both, but a main issue with hiring a F&A Ortho versus a Pod is we cannot take general call. That is a big deal in a practice b/c some else must carry the pager another day.

You 08's are getting kind of screwed at the lawns this year. It's a shame since hospital based podiatry is what you should be getting used to.

jonwill, what do you mean the 08ers are getting screwed at the lawns. What is going on at Broadlawns?

So you won't believe this, I got screwed by a Turkey. Not the bird, the nation, and also not literally. I go to my mailbox and find the new JAMPA and on page 293, I read a trial that is just about exactly the same as the one that I am working on. Nice! So I'm like; Who is the anus that beat me? Scholl? Temple? No a bunch of MDs from Turkey? I hate allopathic medicine. I hate Turkey, the country and the bird. I hate everyone.

Instead of two full months at Broadlawns, students will now get 2 weeks in the fall and two weeks in the spring.

Its all your fault JonWill! Just because our class is smarter than yours and we end up losing almost no one by the third year we get screwed. Tell the lawns that we want more time and we want it now!

Well, the problem is that the ones left in my class were so incredibly smart, they forced all of the others to drop into your class. I'm off to the great state of Michigan this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

that is horrible. Only two weeks a semester!

Life goes on. Just learn everything you can your 3rd year and you'll be fine.

We won't be fine if those muffdivers from Turkey keep stealing our research projects.

Research? You must be mistaking. I've recently read that we don't do research at DMU  Oh well, more time to concentrate on getting the residency that we want.

Good luck at DMC! Let us know how it goes and tell Ben to feed the pimp questions before hand.

Hey guys,

Can you tell me what the deal is with broadlawns? Is that the only hospital we would rotate through in the third year. What caused the change? Please elaborate. Thanks.

Oncogene

Good news, I did some research on the 7th floor today and found out that we actually are spending the same amount of time at broadlawns this year. Jon's information came from Dr M out at broadlawns and he hasn't been to any of the recent faculty meetings or the faculty retreat so he wasn't sure what was going on. No need to panic we will still be getting a month this fall and a month in thte spring. 👍

It is not the only hospital. But it is probably the best because you see a lot of trauma. The question about whether or not there would be changes was due to the greater class size this year as opposed to the previous year. There are more students to accomodate and the "Lawns" can only take so many. But according to GustyDoc's mole on the 7th floor, there will not be any changes. 🙂

It doesn't seem possible with the way they have re-structured the 3rd year. I'll believe it when I see it. IlizaRob, shouldn't you be making your way back up here?

Never!! Ive relocated to AZPOD. That way, I dont have to drive 3 days to Des Moines.

Central CRIP is going to be awesome because I just bought a ticket to go watch the Bears play the Vikings at Soldier Field that Sunday. Hopefully, I'll have reason to celebrate anyway!

Man, this thread was getting a little low on the list. How embarrasing. Anyway, Jonwill, Im waiting to hear how DMC is going. Give us the dirt.
It is going well. Today, I scrubbed a skin graft, a lateral ankle stab, a 5th met fx, and a bunion. I saw 4 ankle fx's and a calc fx last week alone and they say its been slow! I've got to do a lot of blocking and closing so its been a good experience. The residents are awesome and easy to work with, as are all of the attendings that I have met (there are like 140 of them). Anyway, if the pathology or procedure exists, you will see it here. I'd pit DMC against ANY program in the nation. DMU'ers, if it's not on your externship list, it should be.

we should cancel the BBall tournament this year and start a new pod tradition...

ping pong.

I here you DMU boys are ping pong champs? NY has some competition for you.

If we cannot cancel the bball maybe we can have ping pong on the side? we have a ping pong tournament every year at NYCPM thru the sports med club with prizes and all especially braging rights.

I think it is a great idea. If nothing else have it during the bball or APMSA meetings.

Today, I scrubbed a bimalleolar fx, a flat-foot reconstruction, and we ex-fixed a calcaneal fx with a delta frame. I'd say that's a healthy days work. How was the tower?????

About the same as it was for you a year ago I imagine. Although it is geting a bit crowded as the class size grows. I guess that's what we get for so many of the students from the 08 class making it through though. Not like that 07 class. 😀

Ya, and did you see the size of 2010? OK, have any of you 08er's heard of anyone not passing part one?

Not yet, but I didn't get my letter until a little before noon today so I am sure there are others still waiting to finnd out how they did. By the way Jon the NBPME told us last week in vegas that the national pass rate was 81% so we beat you 07er's by 1%. I am sure it will be a while before DR Y decides to let us know exactly what the pass rate for us is.

I talked to him and he said he releases that info after the second sitting.

yes I know someone

Did his name start w/ ROB and end w/ DERSON? J/K. I'm sure you will not discuss any names here. Right?

ofcourse not, I never mention names. I was just acknowling jonwill question. I was hoping that we could get 100%.

Oh, it starts with ROB alright. But I think it ends with something more like, HAGEN. Yeah, that sounds about right.

I was hoping that you would pull a 100% as well.

On another note, if you're ever trying to kill yourself and you jump off of a 20 foot bridge, you probably shouldn't land on your feet. You won't die, but you will sustain bilateral calcaneal, talar, navicular, and cuboid fractures.

The dude tried to kill himself at 20ft? Sounds like a pitty party to me. Now the tax payers can pay to fix him up.

I didn't think you would, but I just mentioned it so we didn't have to have a talk at the IPMSA meeting. 😀

Thanks feelgood, the meetings are hard enough to run and the 08er's stick together not like that 09 class. Haffadoc you guys need to work out your differences.

Hey it's not my fault I was stuck in clinic to 6:30 while you were home relaxing. 😀 I put in your mailbox. Thanks for letting me borrow it. Dr Pehde is the slowest doctor on the seventh floor!

Freak, please tell me the 09er's are getting along.

I think we get along great. People are building bridges all over the place. I had a great day off from class today. Bunch of us (eight total) went and shot a round out at Grandview. I must say that I am definetly a horrible golfer compared to my classmates. I am proud to say that they have this golfing part of doctoring down pat. I think I am going to have to go to Grandview more often. Who can be 18 holes and a cart for under $20.

According to Haffadoc all is well. I guess maybe it was just the stress of that first year that created all of the drama last year.

I guess I didn't realize all of the drama that my class had but I was talking to someone the other day when I was surgery TA' in and the person was really happy that things weren't as "catty" That is how I am going to leave it

Yeah, do you remember when Haffadoc and Dr. Nick went on Jerry Springer and they got into that cat fight b/c Haffadoc was stealing Dr. Nick's man and we found out that he was really a horse in disguise. That is drama!
