DMU self-proclaimed super-geniuses of the third row

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just have a quick question for those of you who are currently doing your externships or who have already graduated. When you are doing your externships where do you stay? I realize that if family lives in the area that is preferred. But if you have not one to stay with then where do you live for the time you're there. I am just curious because some of the externships i would like to do i don't know anyone living in the area. any replies would be appreciated.
Thanks🙂

Man, it is probably good that i haven't posted alot because it seems as if everytime i do it starts a new page. if i posted as much as feelgood, jonwill and azilarob this thread would be a million pages long!😀

Some programs have a place for you to stay, sometimes residents rent rooms out, some programs have deals with hotels and extended stay places, and some places you are on your own. Most programs are pretty good about helping you find a place to stay.

My wife-wonder and beautiful thang😍 -she will definitely want to make the trip with me to all the extenrships-is this permitted? how does it work for ya'll? I've read somewhere that the family will meet up later or something-was that externship or residency?

If you arrange separate housing from the clerkship (some clerkships offer free or discounted housing) you maybe able to bring them but I still would not suggest it. Your clerkships are where you want to work the hardest to impress the residency director and crew. If you family is w/ you, it is more than likely you will be very distracted. I will be gone for 4 months next year but is 4 months worth it to get a great residency. I say yes. You family will definitely come w/ you during your residency though.

From the December DMU News:

Raise a glass to this!
All 41 CPMS students from the class
of ’08 successfully completed part one
of the National Board Exam. CPMS had
a first time pass rate of 98% compared
to a national first time pass rate
of 81% for all eight colleges.

So you guys aren't as dumb as everyone keeps telling me that you are

Thanks to all you DMUers that keep the podiatry forums afloat. It really opened my eyes to podiatry. Oh also, I just talked to Megan today and got accepted to DMU and I am very excited to attend the best podiatric school in the nation!

Thanks again everyone!

So I was just curious. It seems that a couple of classes have been named. Like the class of 0-whine, and the class of 0-Great. What is the class of 07's name? JonWill, help us out here. I know its not the class of 0-heaven?

Class of 0'Snap!

We are simply the class of 07 meaning in 07 months we'll all have graduated and be preparing to start residency while you suckers are still stuck in school

As for the class of 0-Great, that is what we'll all be saying when you guys come to visit our residency programs next year. "Oh great, here those loser 08's come!"

Jon, are you coming to the roast of Dr Smith tonight? Should be pretty funny.

Da BEARS!!! I must admit that while watching them last week at Soldier Field was cool, I was much warmer in my home last night!

Heck yeah I'm done, just graduated Saturday. Now I've got like a month to waste before I start working at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming (just south of Yellowstone). The land there looks awesome...I'm tired of freakin cacti and shrubs.

Nielsen's wife had their baby boy Monday, Dec 18th in SLC. Welcome to the kid club buddy!

Where is everyone going for Christmas and who is staying around Des Moines?

Hey Jon I will around the 26th-3rd. Let me know what you are up to and we can grab lunch.

You guys are finishing your vacation and I am just starting mine 🙂

I heard Ilizarob partied soooo hard that he got sick!

Happy New Year everyone!!! Is anyone else having a hard time believing it is 2007?

Ya, but I'm glad it is finally here. This is my year! I just set foot on the DMU campus for the first time since May. I forgot what a sweet campus this place was.

So Jonwill,
I noticed that you are back in des moines until may. when do you know which residency you will go to? Which residencies are you leaning towards? Another quick question: my wife and i are planning to visit des moines in march and i was wondering what cool places are there to visit? where are some good places to look for housing? we're going to check out maple grove, but i was wondering what you or anyone else would recommend. thanks

Though the match doesn't come out until March, it looks like I will be going to residency in Michigan. I'm very excited. As far as things to do in Des Moines, the downtown area is pretty cool. They have skywalks that connect the entire downtown and there are lots of stores and restaurants. There are also a lot of lakes/parks with trails but that depends on the weather in March. They've got some pretty good malls and stuff as well. As you are LDS, Nauvoo/Carthage is 3 hours and so is Liberty.
The student herd is a migratory one! As I have been gone for the last 6 months, I am not really in tune with where the students are now living. When I moved here, Summerwood, Maple Grove, and Sun Prairie were big. People started bailing from Maple Grove for some reason. Summerwood (or whatever it is called now) is where I live but it changed ownership and increased in price. But it seems that students have returned in mass to Maple Grove. I would also check out Sun Prairie. I know some students that have been very happy with Washington Heights and Colonial Village Apartments. A fair amount of students live in the neighborhood of Valley Junction as well. They are older, small houses but can be rented fairly cheap.
Ilizarob may be better tuned into the student scene and Feelgood lives north in Ankeny and I don't know the situation there either. Feel free to jump in boys!
Let me know when you are coming and maybe we can meet for dinner or something with a few of the local SDNer's!

Thanks for the info. I will for sure call you when we come out. It's looking like the week of the 12th in March. which residency in Michigan? My uncle did his residency at Oakwood and speaks very highly of it as well as DMC. we went and visited them when they were out there. They lived in Dearborn, and it was very beautiful. Good luck with the match!

DMC and I'm pumped. It is a phenominal program. Ya, March 14th is after my board exams so we should be able to work something out.

Right On!!! that is awesome! You'll have to let me know when you find out.

Hey Feelgood,
Are you on the CPMS website? I was scolling through the student profiles and wondered if that was you.

The legend is everywhere. I was thinking about only talking in the 3rd person b/c I am so cool now.

Anyways yes that is me. I'm also on the SDN and medschoolready blogs.

As for living, their is a nice rent controlled townhomes similar to Maple Grove in Johnston. Or apartments in Ankeny are nice b/c it is a gast 10-15 minutes to school and when the interstate is done it will be 10 flat. It is also fairly wuick to get to the Lawns and the VA.

You may live in Ankeny, but I know you miss the valley girls!
