Is there a Bally's Fitness in Des Moines, and if not what facilities are there?
No. There are YMCA?s. For other information, see the Fitness Center section on the portal.
Do the guys there have balls enough to ask women out, are there swank single's clubs, do the med students date each other or do they mix it up with students from other schools/universities (i.e. the law school), what is the ratio of married/single students?
Guys ask girls out. Girls say yes, girls say no. Girls ask guys out. Guys say yes, guys say no.
There are clubs, but they have Midwest Swank Appeal, not Coastal Hotness.
So far as I can tell, in school dating is the primary preference, followed by random hookups with other medical students. Single loneliness is popular as well. Very few mixers happen with Drake. I met a tall handsome male lawyer named Alex at the Glanton Scholarship dinner....I told him I'd introduce him around to Medical Student Ladies, so if any of you silent readers like 6'2'' athletic professional types, respond to me...
When you get here, you can take over a club, and become the mixer maker.
There are tons more married men than married women in medical school. There are many more single women. Judging from my friends, I would find a suitable man and import him, OR find one here during orientation, hook up, and stick with him until the end of 2nd year at least. Breakups suck in medical school.
Does Des Moines seem more like a "college-town"? What I mean is, does the city revolve around the universities?
Not to me. It feels more like a Capital Midwest City that lacks a freakin? POPEYE?S FRIED CHICKEN. The school feels like your life for a while, when it?s new. You?ll branch out, clique off, and move around as time passes.
Truthfully, the schools are incidental to the city.
The winter weather, explain this to me.
Snow falls. It stays cold, and builds up on the roads, and in yards.
It?s weird to drive in at first, but you?ll figure it out.
I suggest living very close to school and walking across the street to go to school. Saves wear and tear on your car and makes insurance cheap. Especially if you don?t get in wrecks because Des Moinkers drive like old farm folk. (i.e. like me)
